I learned something unexpected after moving to the U.S. 🇺🇸

For almost 8 years, I lived and worked in Luxembourg, where everyone called this nail design Baby Boomer.

After moving to the U.S., I quickly realized that most of my clients had no idea what I meant.

The moment I said, “It’s just ombré,” everyone understood. 😄

It turns out the same nail design has different names depending on the country.

The name Baby Boomer became popular in Europe and is believed to be inspired by the Baby Boomer generation—people born after World War II. The soft, elegant fade of a French manicure became closely associated with that timeless, natural look.

In the U.S., however, most people simply call it ombré or French ombré.

Same beautiful nail design—just a different name depending on where you are. 🤍

💅 Did you know modern nail enhancements were invented thanks to a dentist?

The story of modern nail systems didn’t begin in a beauty salon or a cosmetic laboratory.

In 1954, American dentist Fred Slack accidentally broke a fingernail before an important event. To fix it, he used dental acrylic and created an artificial nail on himself.

The experiment worked so well that he later developed one of the first acrylic nail systems together with his brother.

That was the beginning of the acrylic era.

✨ 1970s–1980s

The industry continued to evolve, and the first UV gels appeared.

The technology came from medicine and industry, where photopolymers that hardened under ultraviolet light were already being used.

These early gels were very different from the products we know today—thicker, slightly yellow, and not always easy to work with.

However, they offered one major advantage: a more natural appearance compared to acrylics.

✨ 2010

The real revolution came with the introduction of Shellac.

CND launched the first commercially successful hybrid of nail polish and gel.

For the first time, women could enjoy a manicure that looked like traditional polish but lasted for weeks without chipping.

The worldwide gel polish boom began shortly after.

✨ The Next Chapter

Once durability was no longer the main challenge, clients began looking for more variety.

Matte finishes, velvet effects, and countless new design possibilities entered the industry.

Hard Gel, Gel Polish, BIAB, Rubber Base, Structured Manicure — nail professionals now work with technologies that have evolved over more than 70 years.

And it all started with one accidentally broken fingernail. ❤️

Pregnancy is not a reason to give up self-care ❤️

One of the most common questions I hear from future moms is:
“Are gel manicures and pedicures safe during pregnancy?” ✨

At this time, there is no scientific evidence showing that professionally performed gel manicures or pedicures using high-quality products are harmful during normal salon use 😊

Gel products work only on the surface of the nail and do not deeply pe*****te the body.
The nail itself is made of hardened keratin and does not actively absorb products.

What truly matters is:
• high-quality professional products
• proper application technique
• good studio ventilation

That’s why I work only with professional systems, including Luxio by Akzentz (Canada) ❤️

Of course, every pregnancy is individual, and if you have specific medical recommendations, it’s always best to follow your doctor’s advice ✨

But overall, modern professional nail care is considered a normal part of comfort, grooming, and self-care during pregnancy 😊
