This is traversing hardware doing exactly what it was designed to do.
The Fall Line, a PGA-rated golf club in the Georgia sandhills, called for window treatments that could serve a guest’s needs at any hour, in any light. Each cottage room featured a sheer panel layered with a blackout, fire-rated drapery panel on manual traversing tracks. Pull the sheer for filtered morning light. Pull the blackout for complete darkness. No hassle, just hardware and fabric specified correctly for how the space is actually used. Swipe for the video tour.
That’s the difference between a treatment that looks right and one that works right. In a boutique hospitality space, you need both.

Hospitality Tip No. 03: — Traversing hardware: the case for specifying it correctly.
Fixed panels look beautiful. Traversing panels work. In a boutique hospitality space where drapery must function as well as it looks, the hardware decision matters more than most designers expect.
Hospitality spaces change configurations. A private dining room, a members lounge, a ballroom. These are spaces where the drapery needs to move. Traversing hardware gives the operations team control without touching the design intent.
Scale demands automation. A space with 16-foot drapery runs isn't a space where someone should be manually pulling panels. Automated traversing tracks are the correct spec at that scale...for the staff, for the treatment, and for the longevity of the fabric.
The stack matters. A panel that stacks cleanly when open reads as architectural. A panel that bunches and pulls reads as an afterthought. Specify the stack position and the return before fabrication starts, not after.
Traversing hardware is also the preservation decision. Fabric that is pulled by hand every day wears at the leading edge. Automated traversing extends the life of the treatment significantly, which matters when the panels are floor to ceiling, and the room is in constant use.

Small rooms leave nowhere for details to hide.
In this powder room by Meadowbank Designs, we fabricated a café curtain sized to the lower half of the window, giving the space privacy without giving up the natural light. Its soft pleating and clean white fabric keep it light and tailored, so the blue floral wallcovering and brass finishes take the lead.
A treatment this modest still asks for careful proportions, a precise mount, and fabrication that holds up to close inspection, because in a room this size, it will get exactly that. We bring the same standard to a single café curtain that we bring to a wall of drapery.

It's never just the windows.
Designers often know us for drapery and Roman shades, but our atelier's work extends well beyond the window. For this bedroom by Stonewood Interiors, we fabricated and installed a half-tester canopy, an abbreviated bed crown that brings structure and softness to the head of the bed. The inverted pleat valance is cut from a bold floral linen, with matching floor-to-ceiling panels framing each side, pom pom fringe along the edges, and a crisp blue check linen lining the wall behind.
Bed treatments like this ask for the same skills as fine drapery, from careful handling of linen to precise proportions and a confident installation, all scaled to the bed and the architecture around it. We also fabricated the trio of goblet pleat valances across the room's arched windows, so the floral carries through the space as one cohesive story.
From canopies and headboards to cushions, pillows, and upholstery, we're here for every textile in the room.

Some of the best work happens with your hands and your heart at the same table.
On Wednesday, October 21, I’ll be at Humanscale with the IIDA PND Wellness Committee for Pressed with Purpose. Together we’ll decorate tote bags with pressed flowers and fill them with care items for people currently in breast cancer treatment, in partnership with Penn Medicine Basser Center for BRCA.
We’re proud to support this as an Emerald Level sponsor. But what I’d really love is to see this room full of our design community.
A pressed petal. A handmade bag. Something small that tells someone in treatment they aren’t going through it alone.
Wednesday, October 21st, 5 - 7 PM
Humanscale, 2104 Market Street, Philadelphia
Registration link in first comment. Can’t make it? You can sponsor a full care bag or donate any amount through the same link.
I hope to see you there.

I’m honored to be recognized by Luxury Marketer as one of its Luxury Women Leaders to Watch 2027. This recognition means a great deal to me.
Mickey Alam Khan, thank you. For thinking of me, for championing me, and for the extraordinary community you've built around luxury. I don't take your support lightly. To be included among this group of women, across fashion, real estate, hospitality, jewelry, beauty, cars, yachts, wines and spirits, architecture and interior design, media, advertising, PR, management consulting, AI, legal and finance, is truly humbling.
I came to this country at 15. I started Vitalia Inc. in 2006 with no connections and a lot of determination. For many years, I was the whole company. Today I get to share moments like this with a team I am so proud of.
Mickey described it as grit, drive and empathy. I'd add one more word: team. Nothing we do happens alone. Not the work in our atelier, not the installs, and not the partnerships with designers who trust us with their most demanding projects.
To my team, our design partners, and everyone who has believed in us along the way, this belongs to all of us. Thank you for being in our corner.

Over five years and nearly 20 projects, Michael Shannon Designs has taken us from one beautiful design to the next.
This Cape May renovation, with automated shades throughout the entire home, is a good example of what that kind of history makes possible.
When we featured the project in our newsletter, Michael sent us a note we had to share, saying "Not only do we value your expertise, the friendships that have developed through the years are invaluable!"
We couldn't agree more, and we love seeing where each project takes us next. In his words, let's do this again and again and again.

Here's a first peek at a whole home project, and our first with Danica Satell, a fabulous designer new to our atelier.
Danica came to our Bucks County studio to select fabrics in person, and we worked through the options together, hands-on, right at the table. Those are our favorite collaborations, where the designer brings the vision and welcomes our input along the way.
These pleated café curtains are just the start. We can't wait to share more rooms from this home.

The homeowner requested two shades on the same window. Lenny found a way to make it work.
It sounds simple until you get to the hardware. Two shades usually mean two separate mounting systems, and most windows don't have the depth to spare for both without the valance growing to cover them. Our team had the experience and mechanical knowledge to engineer a solution that not only worked, but looked beautiful.
This is the part of our work that rarely shows up in a finished photo. Before anything is fabricated, someone has to figure out how it will mount and how it will work day-to-day. We do that engineering in-house so nothing is left to chance.
Designers, have a specific window request? Let's talk.

We always look forward to the Fall Designer Tabletop Shows. This year, we're kicking off at the Pittsburgh Golf Club next Thursday, October 1st.
So much of our work happens over email, phone calls, and site visits, so an afternoon of real conversation with the people we build projects with is something we look forward to all year. More than a few of our longest partnerships started at a table like this.
If you're attending, we hope you will stop by and say hi. We love catching up with our design partners and making new connections. RSVP today 👉 loom.ly/yjKfRnc

While I was away with my family last month, the Vitalia Inc. team was busy installing this project, including a headboard that was a whopping 12 feet wide and nearly 100 inches tall.
It was so large we had to hinge the frame in order to fold it for travel, then upholster it right there on site. Getting it onto the wall took just about every set of hands we had.
But the size isn't really what made this project memorable. We've had our share of difficult installations lately, often in the middle of active construction, where the satisfaction can get lost in the sheer effort of getting the job done.
This one was different. The client was wonderful, the designer was thrilled, the room came together beautifully, and I could feel the team's pride and excitement even from afar.
