NAVY HILL Cologne
is the next fragrance to be added to .

Navy Hill, established in 1810 (preceding Jackson Ward, established 1871) in Richmond, VA, was named for a naval war memorial that never became a reality. The name belonged to the area between 3rd & 10th Streets, north of Leigh to Shockoe Cemetary.

First, it began as a haven for immigrants from Germany, but later evolved into a booming African-American community of professionals. This neighborhood was the first public school to hire Black educators in Richmond.

In the '50's and '60's, Navy Hill was demolished to make way for the construction of I-64 and I-95. While the intended purpose of the highway seemed admirable - "help people outside of Richmond make it into the city faster, and those living in.the city would benefit from reduced traffic" - those living in the path of the road plans had their homes forcefully demolished. The city had just built a public housing area known as Gilpin Court ( est. 1958), where most of the displaced homeowners would end up.

This lively, fresh, citric fragrance is an ode to the people of Navy Hill... the old Jackson Ward.
