Meet Alisha Brown! 💙

For Alisha, running the Chicago Marathon is about more than crossing a finish line—it’s a celebration of resilience, healing, and trusting her body again. After being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2021, she discovered that strength looks different for everyone, and every mile she runs is proof that she is capable, powerful, and not defined by her diagnosis.

What excites her most about Chicago? The incredible energy of the city and the opportunity to run alongside a community of women who inspire, uplift, and empower one another every step of the way.

Alisha chose Black Girls RUN! because of the community, representation, and support it provides women at every stage of their wellness journey. Through BGR!, she has found encouragement, friendship, and a place where she truly belongs—and now she’s running to inspire others, especially those living with chronic conditions, to believe they belong too.

BGR! Detroit Memorial 🇺🇸 Day Run! 💪🏽

BGR Tallahassee representing in Olympia, WA! Another state ☑️

Congratulations to Berinice for placing in her age group! The hills were challenging but she pressed on and did the darn thang!

This was a nice small city race with friendly residents coming out to support runners. We all got our first post race, free massage (no lines 😉) and it was amazing!

Shout out to BGR Tacoma/Seattle! Several folks stopped us, thinking we were the local BGR group that they’ve seen on the pavement 🩷🖤
