This is the season to show your hair a little extra love. Fall air is dry, and your edges feel it first; a little growth oil on the scalp and edge balm along the hairline takes 30 seconds.

One of the most overlooked things to look for in a conditioner?

SLIP.

Softness and slip are not the same thing.

Softness describes how your hair feels. Slip describes how easily your strands can move past one another while you’re detangling.

For curly and coily hair, that difference matters.

More bends and coils mean more places for strands to catch, tangle and create friction. A conditioner with good slip helps give your hair the glide you need to work through those tangles more gently.

And your technique matters too.

Make sure your hair is thoroughly wet before conditioning. Work in sections. Finger detangle first. Start at the ends and move upward. And continue adding water as you work the conditioner through your hair.
