💚 I have some exciting news… meet Melissa! 💚

I’m so happy to officially introduce Melissa Morris, Licensed Master Esthetician, who is joining me here at Flourish Skin Therapy! 🌿

(We actually met in Esthetics School a gazillion years ago and worked our first esthetics job out of school together! )

Melissa has been working in the medical spa and wellness world for over 16 years, and I’m really excited about the experience, knowledge, and heart she’s bringing to Flourish. She has a special interest in Rosacea and Menopausal skin. I love her approach to skincare, realizing sometimes less is more and that respecting the integrity of the skin's barrier will reap amazing benefits.

Fun fact: Melissa is also a licensed massage therapist! While she has that background, she’ll be working exclusively as a Master Esthetician here at Flourish, but her facial massages will be top notch! ✨

As we are heading into a 🔥 HOT and SUNNY July 4th, remember to reapply your sunscreen AT LEAST every 2 hours! More if you get wet and towel off. And drink plenty of water to stay hydrated! Daily recommendations for ounces of water is half of your body weight divided by 2. 💧

Using the same sunscreen from last Summer? It's probably time to ditch it and get a new one, as heat and sun exposure can cause sunscreens to break down. 🙃

Yesterday our neighbors found an abandoned baby racoon in their yard. She was so little her eyes hadn't even opened yet. We noticed flies swarming around her and we feared they might have laid eggs on her (fly strike). This is an emergency, as the animal has about 8 to 12 hours before the eggs hatch and the maggots begin eating the host. 😞 We got her to an absolutely amazing rehabber Heather Elizabeth Ramsey and she confirmed the little girl did in fact have fly strike on her, which looks like yellow eggs, usually up under the fur. She took her in immediately and got rid of the eggs... and... named her Krystal! There is a racoon in this world named after me. I believe I have peaked!

I'd like to add that Heather is a Saint. We drove the baby out to her at 10:30pm and she met us at the door ready to save this baby. ​

If you EVER see flies swarming an injured, sick, or orphaned animal, or if you see yellow eggs on one, it is an emergency. Please have a list of licensed rehabbers at the ready as time is of the essence. Heather is located in Powhatan and takes most animals with the exception of snapping turtles, venomous snakes, and birds.

42nd trip around the sun! I always spend the morning of my birthday with my parents, get completely spoiled with too many gifts, and enjoy my grandma's biscuits and gravy recipe prepared by my mom. For dinner we went to Lola's Farmhouse Bistro and had an amazing time! I'm a lucky gal! Here's to a wonderful year! ✨️
