I’ve gotten a few new followers recently, and I haven’t posted here in awhile — I’m going to do better posting content 😳 I’m so old school lol… but allow me to introduce myself.

My name is JoLonn Cook, owner of HAIRapy Studio.

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, my love for hair began long before I ever held a license. At just 12 years old, I became the neighborhood stylist right in my mother’s kitchen. My aunt and uncle Charles and Diane recognized my gift early, and that encouragement changed everything.

I began shampooing for my uncle Charles before later shampooing at Professionals Hair Salon under Irene Sykes — where my foundation in professional hair care began.

I started my professional career at Charmettes in downtown Richmond, worked at A Head of Class, and spent 23 years at Shear Perfection Hair Salon under the mentorship of my aunt and uncle, Charles and Diane Cook.

In 2019, I stepped out on faith and became a suite owner — and STYLZbyJOLONN was birthed. Today, that vision has evolved into HAIRapy Studio.

Throughout my 32+ year career, I’ve been featured in Style Q and The Cut magazines, participated in hair shows and competitions, won Stylist of the Year at the 2009 Golden Scissor Awards, worked with artists in the music industry as a stylist and assistant, and in 2010 produced Hair Extravaganza — a hair show that showcased several RVA stylists and barbers.

I’ve also had the honor of giving back through the Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA, and local churches — organizations I attended as a child. Being able to pour back into the communities that shaped me means everything.

For me, it’s always been about more than hair. It’s about confidence, care, and making women feel seen.
