Meet the people behind The Hype.

Kris — Founder, owner, and Director of Education.
35+ years behind the chair and still obsessed with the craft. Kris has a rare ability to take complex haircutting and coloring techniques and break them down so they actually make sense. She built The Hype on one simple idea: great hair comes from great education.

Bek — Operations, strategy, and systems.
Bek grew up in the salon world and became fascinated with the business of it. Why some salons stay chaotic, why others become profitable, and what systems actually support stylists long-term.

Together, we built The Hype Hair Studio + Academy with a different philosophy.

We believe getting your hair done should feel calm, intentional, and creative — not rushed, chaotic, or transactional.

So we built a salon that works differently:

• No double booking — your stylist’s attention is actually on you
• All-inclusive package pricing — no surprise add-ons at checkout
• Gratuity-free — no awkward tipping math
• Education-driven stylists who are constantly refining their craft

We’re also home to The Hype Hair Academy, where future hairdressers train alongside working professionals inside a real salon environment.

In the late ’90s, Kris — now the owner of The Hype Hair Studio & Academy — was a single mom in Rio Rancho, and St. Felix Pantry was one of the places that helped her and her young daughter, Bek.

Now, decades later, that same mom and daughter run this business together.

And we’re honored to support the same organization that once supported us.

Through The Hype Impact Initiative, we’re starting off with a $400 contribution as the beginning of our monthly donations that will continue throughout 2026. As our business continues to grow, our giving will too.

This initiative is our way of expressing gratitude to the Rio Rancho community that has supported us from the beginning. We’re endlessly thankful you choose to spend your hair appointments with us — and we’re so excited to contribute to the future success and well-being of the place we call home.
