Forgiveness is a difficult topic.. I’ve been guilty of not forgiving and just deleting people from my mind or my space. I’ve not talked to family members for over a year… I used to be known for holding a grudge… The truth of the matter is that I became so afraid to be hurt that I called it protection and would be the first to leave and the last to give a second chance. The Lord met with me and told me we could not go any further in our relationship until I understood the value in forgiveness. He said… Deanna there’s an exchange and an experience attached when you learn how to forgive. There’s mercy extended and grace received… you’ll get to experience Me through this action”. I’m naturally a curious person. I ask God everything on my mind or write a sticky note in my Bible…. Why forgive so many times? What about people who don’t deserve your time anymore? What about forgiving but not forgetting?? He said… Deanna, do you want to walk in freedom? Do you want to know what it feels like to have nothing and no one controlling your emotions, your thoughts, your destiny? Then you will learn how to forgive. The beautiful thing is…He never promised it would be easy and I don’t necessarily believe it has to be the same case for every person… but I want freedom and that means I have to let go of people who hurt me when in truth they were just hurting themselves… I’ve never felt “lighter” in my life than when I actively chose to let go and practice extending mercy for someone who did me wrong.. I get to extend people what the Lord extends to me and that doesn’t mean they have to stay in my circle but I can always release myself of the bo***ge that comes with unforgivensss. The Lord said… we have much to explore together and we can’t do that with the weight and burden you’re holding onto… So I had to let go… Now I want to let go.. I promise it becomes easier. It’ll go from having to… to wanting to. 🫶🏾
