Fr fr, color corrections are a wild ride—they don’t always do exactly what you want, no matter how much you throw at them. Case in point: this client came in wanting to transition from blue and purple to blonde with maroon color blocks. We followed all the right steps:
• She let the blue fade as much as possible before her appointment.
• I stripped the color twice right at the start.
• While lifting her roots, we pulled lightener through the ends.
• I foiled specific trouble spots as a last-ditch effort.
• Then came the toning: orange, pink, champagne—everything to counteract that stubborn blue.

And still, the blue didn’t fully surrender. But you know what? It still turned out stunning, and my client loved it. That’s the reality of color correction: we’re professionals, not magicians. Could I have pushed her hair harder to get it completely blonde? Sure—if we were cool with it breaking off and ending up on the floor.

I frequently emphasize the importance of depth to my clients- even when they’re aiming for a bright look. Depth; achieved through darker tones, is essential for creating contrast, allowing the lighter colors to command attention. Without this contrast, the colors—whether light or dark—lack dimension and can appear flat. While we can adjust the level of contrast to suit your desired effect, completely removing it results in a less dynamic outcome, reminiscent of the over-processed looks of the past.
