Pregnancy is an amazing function of the human body. Pregnancy changes the woman's body in many ways such as hormone levels, swelling, and possible nerve pain. Never having been pregnant, I can only imagine and listen to stories of the beautiful process of pregnancy.
Helping Mother to relax can improve her hormones and in return mood regulation. Another benefit is her improved cardiovascular health. Swelling or Edema, is often caused by reduction of blood flow and increased pressure on major vessels by the ever-expanding uterus. Some women may experience sciatic nerve pain. In the expectant mom's later terms, her uterus rests on the lower back and pelvic floor. The legs will take on more tension and start to swell where resulting pressure is placed on her nerves.
Massage is safe for Mother and new baby. We utilize pillows and the side lying position for create a comfortable experience for her. Do you know any lady in your life that needs a prenatal massage? Let me know.
Trust me, you need me to knead you.

Ooh, what's that smell or ew what's that smell. Aromatherapy is where your therapist can incorporate essential oils into your treatment, an enhancement if you will.
Inhalation 🫁 is usually how essential oils are best utilized but when applying it to your body there is a ratio to the equation of how to dilute the oils with a carrier oil.
Many ancient cultures recognized the physical and psychological benefits of scented ointments and oils. Hippocrates, known as the father of modern medicine, maintained 2,500 years ago that “the key to good health rests on having a daily aromatic bath and scented massage’.
Though we have many oils readily available today, there are a few tried and true scents. Lavender 🪻 will promote relaxation. I like lemon 🍋 or lemongrass as it has an uplifting effect as like citrus 🍊 oils. Peppermint can be used if your are experiencing headaches.
Since everyone has their own tastes in scent, if you wish to have a scent added to your treatment, let me know! I have a few options and would love to help elevate your experience with a scent of your choice.

🙏 Thanks friends.
Well life happens, doesn't it? During the seasons of life, death and my pursuit to overcome 40's fatigue, I neglected to post about massage. So I granted myself some GRACE and am here now.
Hot Stones are typically made of basalt, a volcanic rock. For obvious reasons they tend to hold heat the longest. Your therapist may hold them while performing many Swedish movements such as long stokes or kneading. The stones should be around 120 degrees. Only once the stones cool to a lower temp should they be left stationary. We always use a barrier to protect our largest organ SKIN.
Native American Tribes used hot stones in their sweat lodges and healing ceremonies. Our Hawaiian culture has used heated stones in a holistic massage called Lomi Lomi and is believed to help release negative energies and you guessed it, promote relaxation.
There is no additional charge for hot stones here in my studio.
Let me know if you want them chilled. There is always a counterbalance and especially in our current heatwave, it could be refreshing.

Deep Tissue is used to address our chronic pain. Unlike Swedish modality, this modality works through to the inner muscle layers. The term deep tissue became popular in the 1980's when therapists started focusing on the deeper muscles to address tension and chronic pain. However, therapists consider this a broader term for trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, and therapeutic massage.
Depending on your level of pain tolerance this modality might be too much if you are looking for a relaxing experience.
I would love if you would reach out. Text or call 540.589.6738.

There are 12 main modalities of massage. We learn about all of them in school but unless you specialize, you may not practice all forms regularly.
Swedish is the first modality on my list of 12. A Swedish massage like all massage has the goal of muscle tension relief and relaxation. Dating back to early 19th century, Per Henrik Ling, a Swedish physical therapist and gymnast laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Swedish massage. It wasn't until Johan Georg Mezger, a Dutch physician, refined techniques. Mezger gave these 5 techniques the names that we learn today.
There are 5 core techniques utilized during a treatment. Effleurage has nice gliding motions while petrissage is more of a kneading motion. Friction goes a little deeper to provide increase in your mobility. Tapotement and vibration are nice together. During tapotement, you tap the body to stimulate nerves. Can you guess what we do during the vibration technique? Yep, I gently shake or rock the client to relax the muscles.

I need content. Muscles? There are 12 primary groups of muscles. Types of massage? There are about 12 primary modalities to manage these muscles. Maybe a summer session talking about these?
Stay tuned and tell me what you want to discuss.
