Her 20-year journey led to the creation of Tennessine (Ts), atomic number 117, marking a groundbreaking moment in science. Meet 51-year old Lashawn Flowers and her 35-year old daughter, Shanita Vickers, the new owners of the only Black-owned gas station in Hollywood, Florida, and possibly the only Black-owned gas station in all of South Florida. As Shell franchisees, they are making history as women entrepreneurs and causing quite a stir on social media.⁠

Lashawn and her daughter, who both grew up in Deerfield Beach, Florida, began their roots in entrepreneurship as the owners of a local hair and nail salon called Girlz Collectionz and later a local bar and nightclub called Groove City Bar & Lounge, which is currently closed because of the pandemic. Having to pivot sparked the idea of purchasing a gas station.⁠

"We actually purchased two Shell gas stations," says Lashawn. "We were able to negotiate a two-for-one deal."

This is a perspective that many may not agree with, however we should pay close attention to. Will & Jada Smith have had the ability to work with their children in close proximity to them. So they didn’t miss out on their lives and were still able to operate in their craft as actors. These children have a unique privilege that has exposed them to things in life that that majority of kids will never see and most adults are too jaded and conditioned to grasp. Ppl fail to understand that they have had a worldwide education seeing things and having experiences that we only read about or see on tv or online. When Willow described high school as an “oppressed environment” that is correct. Based on her life that had minimal restrictions, schools are designed with an antiquated curriculum and structure that is fundamentally confining and unfortunately extinguishes our childrens’ creative spark!

The same can be said for Jaden and Willow Smith. The two have spent much of their life in the public eye, and their parents have often shared aspects of their private lives growing up. So .....

Trades & Entrepreneurship is one of the core components of the F.A.C.T.S. Youth Program. In addition to college or as an alternative youth in our program will learn the importance of both, and what is best for each individual.

We foster creativity in the youth and encourage them to learn how to successfully navigate along the many routes that exist, on the road to success.

Learning a trade is a life skill and mastering it can lead to entrepreneurship.

Ever hear the phrase?, “I don’t wanna take a loss!” We all have. That means there’s an opportunity and you’ve allowed fear to inhibit you from making decisions on possibly, life changing financial decisions. This mindset cripples people because it prevents them from taking a risk, and reaching their full potential.

You won’t invest money, because the stock market fluctuates. People tend to shy away from investing in other things like workshops on how to be financially fit or real estate gurus or most importantly life insurance/wills. Things that can build generational wealth. This mentality is a handicap, especially if you consider the fact that we make unnecessary purchases of clothing, shoes, and vehicles every day!

We dine-out excessively then go buy a gym membership because we subsequently gain too much weight. Not realizing making purchases that you can not profit from are ALL LOSSES. Yep, I said it. Just about anything, and everything you spend money on is money out of the window or down the drain.

We are a society of self gratifying individuals, so we don’t look at it that way. Much more about financial literacy and responsible money management can be a accessed through our Financial Literacy curriculum within the F.A.C.T.S. Youth Program.
