An Open Letter to Our Community

We don't typically address negativity on social media, but when false accusations become an ongoing pattern directed at our business and employees, some context is necessary.

Several months ago, an individual who has never been a client of Maxim left a Facebook review calling our staff “Karens,” accusing our owners of being racist and referring to our team as “entitled white women.”

We later learned the connection: a family member of this individual had been employed by Maxim for less than two weeks before that employment ended.

Since then, he has continued targeting our social media — insulting our stylists' work and leaving disparaging comments on our employment posts.

SO WE WANT TO BE VERY CLEAR:
The picture being painted of Maxim could not be further from the culture we have spent more than 25 years building.

We have always wanted Maxim to be a place where clients and employees of all backgrounds feel welcome, respected and comfortable. We don't tolerate racist comments, disrespect toward coworkers, or behavior that creates an uncomfortable or divisive environment for our team or our guests.

👉🏽 Sometimes an employee simply isn't a fit for the culture and professional standards of a workplace. When that happens, it is our responsibility as owners to address it — especially when the behavior we're seeing is contrary to the inclusive, respectful environment we expect at Maxim. 👈🏽

There is much more we could say about this particular employment situation. We won't. Personnel matters should remain private, and we will not publicly detail the actions of a young former employee simply to defend ourselves against a family member's social media attacks.

OUR REPUTATION WASN'T CREATED BY A FACEBOOK REVIEW, AND IT WON'T BE DEFINED BY ONE.
It was built over 25+ years by the clients, employees and Rochester community who actually know us.

We have blocked this individual and will not engage further. We're proud of our team, proud of the culture we've built, and incredibly grateful to the community that continues to support Maxim.

That's where our focus will remain.

Apparently the World Cup wasn't exciting enough...⚽🙌🏽

At about 1:30 AM, after the World Cup game at the bar next door, this gentleman decided our porch curtain was the real trophy of the night.🏆

Not only did he steal it—he climbed up, pulled down the entire curtain rod, and casually walked away like porch curtains are complimentary after last call.

Bold move. Unfortunately for him, our security cameras were also awake.📸
