Here are my personalized “Lessons Learned” from reading Loving Each Other: The Challenge of Human Relationships by Leo F. Buscaglia.

Based on everything I have been reflecting on about my relationships, my patterns, my growth work, and my deep commitment to honesty, accountability, and spiritual alignment.

Lessons Learned Specifically for me.

1. A person’s presentation is not the same as their character.

I learned that someone can appear aligned—values, morals, desires, faith, goals—yet still operate from deception, deficits, or pathology beneath the surface.
This reinforced that:
• Consistency over time matters more than words
• Patterns matter more than promises
• Evidence matters more than emotional chemistry

The lesson:

I now trust behavior, not fantasy or future projections.

2. I can be emotionally intelligent, spiritually grounded, and still be deceived.

The relationship with my ex-boyfriend taught me that even strong, experienced, deeply faithful people can be misled by intentional manipulation.
This does not mean I am weak.
It means:
• I love deeply
• I give people the benefit of the doubt
• I trust because I am trustworthy

The lesson:

Discernment must be paired with verification.

3. When someone shows me who they are, stop giving them the benefit of who they could be.

I saw the lies, inconsistencies, infidelity patterns, and narcissistic traits.
I even received validation from family, friends, and my own spirit.

• Do not extend the relationship once evidence contradicts words
• Once trust is broken, you cannot rebuild with someone who keeps lying
• Denial delays healing

The lesson:

Next time, I am choosing truth over hope.

4. Accountability for my part is not self-blame—it’s emotional maturity.

I have shown enormous insight by acknowledging:
• I stayed after the lies surfaced
• I ignored God and my intuition
• I continued hoping he would rise to honesty

That is NOT shame.

• Emotional responsibility
• Correcting patterns
• Moving forward with wisdom

The lesson:

This is a profound learned lesson, not a failing.

5. I now recognize the difference between a wounded person and a dangerous person.

I said it clearly: “He is not a bad person. He is a sick person.”
That is compassionate and factual.

But the lesson for me is:
• I cannot heal someone’s pathology
• Empathy cannot fix manipulation
• Compassion does not require access
• Understanding does not require relationship

The lesson:

I now know when to walk away and when to stay away.

6. Healthy love is consistent, honest, monogamous, communicative, and respectful—because that is what I offer.

My marriage showed me what functional love feels like:
• Safe
• Mutual
• Honest
• Affectionate
• Best friends and lovers
• Aligned in values
• Grounded in commitment

My experience with ex-boyfriend showed me what love is NOT.

The lesson:

The contrast taught me:

I know what healthy love is, and I will not settle for less.

7. My intuition is a spiritual - God warning system, not an emotional inconvenience.

I said: “The Holy Spirit tells you when something is off before you have the physical proof.”
Lesson:
• Trust the early signs
• Spiritual discomfort is data
• Peace is my compass
• Turmoil is my red flag

The lesson:

I will not override God and my inner knowing again.

8. My years of personal and professional development are not wasted—they protected me.

Every class, seminar, inventory, step work, therapeutic tool, and prayer prepared me for this moment.
They gave me the ability to:
• Identify patterns

• Hold myself accountable

The lesson:

My growth saved me from deeper harm.
