My latest perfecting session was another easy touch-up! Because her pigment is lighter we added more saturation to both brows so when she heals they will look so naturally full. Another easy perfecting session!! Sonya healed so nicely that it was hard to tell what needed touch-up, so we just added a litte pigment overall. Her brows complemented her so well. A lot of people inquire about the outcome of a powder brow procedure. Powder brow success is dependent on the best prep and aftercare, and of course a successful procedure by a professional artist. Here are some tips for the prep and aftercare that can lead to the best outcome of your powder brows.

TO PREPARE BEFOREHAND:

1. Do not take blood thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E) one week prior to the procedure. Antibiotics and steroids may affect healing and pigment retention, so please notify your artist if you are taking these medications. Please consult a physician if you take prescribed blood thinners to get approval and instructions for the procedure.

2. Avoid caffeine (coffee, soda, chocolate, etc.) before the procedure.

3. Do not drink alcohol 24-48 hours before your procedure (blood thinning).

4. No botox for 3 weeks prior.

5. Do not have facials, chemical peels, micodermabrasion, etc. for 2 weeks prior.

6. Do not tan 2 weeks prior or have sunburned skin.

7. Do not wax, tweeze, etc. one week prior.

THE DAY OF:

1. DO wear eyebrow makeup. This shows the artist your preferred size, shape and color.

2. It is recommended to shower before the procedure as to limit exposure to water droplets or steam.

3. Do not do strenuous exercise that may lead to excessive sweating as this may affect pigment retention.

4. Wear comfortable clothing.

5. Please be transparent with the artist about expectations including brow shape, size, color, etc.

AFTERCARE:

1. Gently cleanse the brows morning and night using an antibacterial soap such as dial or Cetaphil. Do not use acid containing products as cleansers.

2. Apply a tiny amount of moisturizer such as tattoo goo or aquaphor to the brows. Do not over-apply.

3. Do not pick at scabbed areas.

4. Avoid sweaty exercise and steamy showers for 10 days after.

5. Avoid tanning or direct sun exposure for 4 weeks. Use sunscreen on the brows once they have completely healed.

6. Avoid topicals or makeup until the brows have healed.

7. No botox, facials, chemical peels, micodermabrasion, etc. for 4 weeks.

8. Avoid swimming or hot tubs for at least 10 days.

9. Keep your pillowcase clean.

10. Avoid laying on the brows as much ad possible.

There are a lot of differing sources on the internet about prep and aftercare instructions, and there is a lot of variation among artists as well. Just keep in mind that most of the requirements are tied to a length of time between 2-4 weeks, and when in doubt, just reach out. And MORE IMPORTANTLY, ALWAYS seek advice from a physician if you believe you may have medical conditions that may affect your eligibility for a powder brow procedure.

Please keep in mind that we do not treat pregnant or nursing mama's. If you are undergoing chemotherapy please get doctor approval for the procedure. We cannot treat anyone with uncontrolled diabetes. We can perform powder brow procedures on clients with various medical conditions, however, we may require doctor approval, and some medical conditions and medications affect the success and healing of the brows. There is always a risk of infection with any procedure.

This wonderful woman has been my mom's best friend since childhood, and we have been blessed to get to see her family grow and thrive through the years. It had been quite a while since we had seen each other, so I was really excited to get to treat her to powder brows. I truly think the brows really elevated her look and enhanced her smile!
