You could not have convinced 17-year-old me that my skin would look better at almost 30.

When I tell you my passion for being an esthetician runs deep, I mean it.

For years, my skin was something I tried to hide. It was one of my biggest insecurities, one I couldn’t seem to outrun. I had countless dermatology appointments, took all the doxycycline, used all the tretinoin, and nothing seemed to help. Eventually, I resorted to Accutane, but I was taken off of it prematurely after it started affecting my vision.

What I didn’t realize then was that my skin journey would become such a huge part of who I am.

It taught me patience when I wanted instant results. It taught me consistency when I wanted quick fixes. Most importantly, it taught me empathy.

Because when someone sits in my treatment room and tells me they hate their skin, I know exactly what that feels like.

The reason I feel so connected to skincare isn’t because I have perfect skin. It’s because I’ve struggled with it. I’ve lived through the insecurity, the frustration, the trial and error, and the tears that can come from feeling uncomfortable in your own skin.

Now, as I approach 30, I look back at that 17-year-old girl with so much compassion. She had no idea that one day she would build a career helping others feel confident in their skin. She had no idea that the thing she was most insecure about would become one of her greatest passions.

My skin isn’t perfect, and neither am I. But today, I feel healthier, more confident, and more at peace with myself than I ever did back then.
