If you’re a woman of a certain age like me, you remember what getting a relaxer used to be like back in the day! 😬

I got my first relaxer when I was 7 years old and didn’t transition to natural until I was 35! I was fortunate to have relatively healthy relaxed hair, partly because my Dad did my relaxers early on and partly because I knew how to take good care of my own hair. But that wasn’t everyone’s story. Many suffered severe chemical burns and struggled to retain length.

Well, thankfully, a lot has changed since then. With formulation improvements and better education around technique and maintenance, people can now achieve healthier relaxed hair. In today’s Tuesday Hair Tip, I talk about why I don’t do traditional keratin treatments anymore (or any service that requires multiple passes of the flat iron). at the end of the day, my goal is to help to preserve the integrity of the hair so that my clients enjoy the versatility of their natural hair. 🤷🏾.
