René’s Hair Shoppe has been a permanent fixture in downtown Royal Oak for 45 years, located in the historical Washington Square Plaza Building. Working alongside her father, the salon was originally called Tommy Ingram’s Washington Square Plaza Barber Shop. When her father passed a few years later, René purchased the shop and changed the name to The Chopping Block. However, to keep up with the ever-developing area of Royal Oak, René decided to renovate the tiny men's-only barbershop into what is now: Rene’s Hair Shoppe. Not only did the salon's name change but so did its menu of extensive services including including cut, color, hair and lash extensions, makeup applications, waxing and more. Children's haircuts are also offered. René along with her trained staff are some of the best in business with a combined 105+ years of professional experience. René’ Hair Shoppe clients come from not only Royal Oak but all over the tri-county area, as well as out of state. Many of the same faithful customers have been returning for decades and have spread their likes for the salon through the best form of communication, “word of mouth”. René’s Hair Shoppe is located at 226 Sherman Dr. in the historical Washington Square Plaza Building on Fourth Street and Washington Avenue, in downtown Royal Oak. René’s is open six days a week- Mon-Fri 10 A.M. and Sat at 9 A.M. The salon is open late until 8 P.M. on Thurs and Fri. Walk-ins are welcome.
