I’m going to say something that may be unpopular, but it needs to be said.

Just because a salon says “we’re hiring” does not mean you’re becoming an employee.

Many salons today operate under a booth rental model. There is nothing wrong with that, but let’s call it what it is: you are running your own business inside someone else’s building. You pay rent, purchase your own color, products, tools, education, insurance, and everything else needed to service your clients. Some salons may provide towels or a shampoo backbar, but ultimately you are responsible for your success or failure.

At BeBlonde, we do things differently.

We are a true employee salon. We provide the products, color, education, mentorship, marketing, systems, and support. More importantly, we work as a team.

The biggest misconception in our industry is that a stylist should be able to do everything. That’s simply not true.

I’ve been in this industry for over 15 years, and I am the first person to tell you that I cannot be the best at everything. No one can.

I grew up and trained in Europe, where employee-based salons are the standard. In fact, that’s almost all we have. Stylists work together, learn together, and support each other. The salon succeeds as a whole, not as a collection of individuals competing under the same roof.

The client walking through our doors deserves the best possible outcome. If one stylist is stronger at extensions, another at cutting, another at grey blending, and another at blonding, why wouldn’t we use those strengths?

That is what true teamwork looks like.

In many booth rental environments, you’re on your own. If a client requests a service outside your expertise, you face a difficult choice: turn away income or attempt something you’re not fully confident in. That’s where stress, competition, insecurity, and the “fake it until you make it” mentality often begin.

But when a salon operates as a team, something different happens.

Stylists learn from each other. They support each other. They share knowledge instead of guarding it. The focus shifts from protecting income to creating the best possible experience for the client.

The client wins.

The stylist wins.

The salon wins.

I truly believe the future of our industry is not individual stylists trying to do everything. It’s talented professionals working together, each bringing their strengths to the table and creating results that no single person could achieve alone.

That’s how I believe a salon should operate.
