Dermaplaning: The Peach Fuzz Question 🌿

One of the questions I hear about dermaplaning is:

“Won’t my facial hair grow back thicker?”

No. Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair—what we usually call peach fuzz—at the surface of the skin. It does not change the structure of the hair follicle underneath, so it doesn’t suddenly turn that fine hair into coarse, dark hair.

But removing peach fuzz isn’t really the star of dermaplaning anyway. ✨

Dermaplaning also removes accumulated dead surface skin cells, which can leave the complexion looking smoother and brighter and create a beautiful surface for skincare and makeup.

And because I’m an esthetician first, I’m also looking at your skin before I ever pick up the blade.

Dermaplaning isn’t the right treatment for every person on every day. If your skin is irritated, compromised or experiencing certain active breakouts, we may choose something more appropriate instead.

Good skincare isn’t about doing the most.

It’s about knowing what your skin actually needs. 🤍

Lip Blush & Mature Lips: You Haven’t “Missed Your Chance” 💋

Something I want women to know: there is no age when you suddenly stop being a candidate for beautifully subtle permanent makeup simply because you’ve gotten older.

Over time, our lips can lose some of their natural color and definition. The border may look a little less distinct, or the lips may simply appear paler than they once did.

Lip blush can be used to softly enhance what is already there—not to create an entirely different mouth.

And I think that distinction matters.

I’m not interested in giving every client the same trendy lip color. I want to know what your lips used to look like, what colors you naturally gravitate toward, how much makeup you normally wear, and what would make you feel comfortable looking in the mirror with no lipstick on at all.

We also choose pigment with the healed result in mind. Fresh lip blush is brighter and more intense; as it heals, the color softens considerably.

The goal isn’t twenty-year-old lips.

The goal is your lips—softly refreshed, beautifully balanced and still unmistakably you. 💗

Your Facial Doesn’t Need to “Feel Strong” to Be Working 🌿

There’s a skincare myth I’d happily retire:

If it doesn’t burn, tingle or peel, it isn’t doing anything.

Nope. 😊

Sometimes your skin benefits from exfoliation. Other times, adding another strong active to already stressed skin is exactly what it doesn’t need.

During a customized facial, I’m paying attention to things like hydration, texture, sensitivity, congestion and the condition of your skin barrier—not trying to see how aggressive a treatment your skin can tolerate.

There may be appointments where we exfoliate more. There may be others where calming, hydrating and supporting the skin barrier is the smarter choice.

Neither treatment is automatically “better.”

The right treatment is the one that makes sense for the skin sitting in front of me that day.

And if I change our plan after looking at your skin, I’ll tell you why. I want you to understand what we’re doing—not simply lie there wondering what’s happening under all those towels. 😂🤍

Healthy skin is built through appropriate, consistent care—not punishment.

Powder Brows: Good Mapping Isn’t About Making Your Face “Perfect” 🤎

One thing I want clients to know about brow mapping: your face is not supposed to be perfectly symmetrical. None of ours are.

Mapping gives me useful reference points, but I’m also looking at your natural brow growth, bone structure, facial movement, coloring, and the way you like to wear your brows.

Most importantly, we look at the shape together before I begin.

If something feels too high, too bold, too thick—or simply doesn’t feel like you—I want to know. Permanent makeup is not the place for you to stay quiet because you’re worried about hurting my feelings. 😊

Then comes the part that requires a little patience: healing. Fresh powder brows are darker and more defined than the final result. As they heal, they soften into the shaded, natural-looking finish we planned for.

My goal isn’t to create “perfect brows.”

It’s to create your brows—with a little less work every morning. 💗

Beautifully Healed. Beautifully You.

Brazilian Waxing: Why That 4-Week Rhythm Matters 🌿

If you wax once, shave for a while, wax again, wait six weeks, shave again…and wonder why every Brazilian feels like you’re starting over—there’s a reason. 😄

Hair grows in cycles, and not every hair is at exactly the same stage at the same time.

When you begin waxing on a reasonably consistent schedule and resist the temptation to shave between appointments, we have a better opportunity to catch more hairs within a similar growth pattern over time.

That doesn’t mean every hair will magically begin growing on precisely the same Tuesday. 😉 Bodies aren’t that cooperative.

It does mean consistency can make maintaining your results easier than repeatedly switching back and forth between shaving and waxing.

And if you’ve missed your schedule? Come anyway. There is absolutely no Brazilian Wax Attendance Police at Forever Young. 😂

We’ll simply start where you are.

If you’re new to waxing, I’ll also explain what we’re doing as we go. You never need to arrive already knowing the process, and you can always tell me when you’re nervous or need a moment.

Comfort and communication matter just as much as smooth skin. 🤍

Brazilian Waxing: Consistency Really Does Matter 🌿

If you’re trying to get the best results from Brazilian waxing, one of the simplest things you can do is stay reasonably consistent with your appointments.

Hair grows in cycles, which means all of your hair isn’t growing at exactly the same stage at the same time. With consistent waxing, we can gradually work with those growth cycles instead of repeatedly starting over.

A few things help between appointments, too:

* Skip the razor if you can.
* Gently exfoliate a few days before your appointment.
* Wear loose, comfortable clothing afterward.
* And tell me if your skin has been unusually sensitive or you’ve started something new that could affect it.

But please don’t stress if you get off schedule. Life happens. 😂 You don’t have to “fix it” before coming back.

And if it’s your first Brazilian? You are allowed to be nervous. Ask me anything. I’ll explain what to expect, protect your privacy and do everything I can to keep the appointment comfortable and professional.

Smooth skin is nice.

Feeling comfortable with the person providing the service matters, too. 🤍

Permanent Eyeliner: Your Eyes, Your Style 👁️

Permanent eyeliner doesn’t have to mean a bold line or a “made-up” look. One of the best things about permanent makeup is that it can be customized to how you actually live and wear your makeup.

Maybe you want just enough definition at the lash line to make your lashes appear fuller. Maybe you’ve worn eyeliner every day for years and want to simplify your morning routine. Or maybe applying eyeliner has simply become more difficult than it used to be.

Those are three different clients—and I wouldn’t approach them exactly the same way.

Before we begin, I want to hear what you want. We’ll talk about your usual makeup, your comfort level and what you definitely don’t want.

And remember: fresh eyeliner looks darker and more defined than healed eyeliner. We’re designing for where it’s going—not just how it looks immediately after the procedure.

The goal is simple: you should still recognize yourself when you look in the mirror. Just a little more defined. 🤍

Beautifully Healed. Beautifully You.

☀️ THE ESTHETICIAN-TO-ENGLISH DICTIONARY: THIS WEEKS TERM IS "SPF"

Professional meaning: Sun Protection Factor—a measure of protection against UVB radiation when sunscreen is applied correctly.

Esthetician translation: The product that protects both your skin and the money you spent trying to improve it. 😂

Professional skincare can help address existing sun damage, uneven pigmentation and premature signs of aging—but daily sunscreen helps prevent you from paying to correct the same damage again!

Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and apply it every morning to your face, neck, chest and ears. When you’re outdoors, reapply every two hours and after swimming or sweating.

Your treatments do the correcting. Your SPF does the protecting. 👸🏼☀️

✨ KNOW YOUR LIGHT ✨

Light-based treatments can sound similar, but LED, infrared and ultraviolet light are not interchangeable. Each uses different wavelengths and serves a different purpose.

🔴 LED LIGHT THERAPY
LED devices deliver specific, controlled wavelengths directly to the skin. Depending on the device and setting, these may include blue, amber, red and near-infrared light. LED therapy does not use UV light or tan the skin.

〰️ INFRARED THERAPY
Infrared is invisible light beyond the visible red spectrum. Depending on the device, it may be used as targeted near-infrared light or primarily to generate heat. That is why the device, wavelength and intended treatment matter.

☀️ ULTRAVIOLET—or UV—LIGHT
UVA and UVB are higher-energy wavelengths that can tan, burn and damage the skin. Medical UV phototherapy has legitimate uses, but it is carefully dosed and performed under clinical supervision.

👑 THE ELIPSA STANDARD

At Forever Young, I use the LightStim Elipsa—an FDA-cleared Class II LED device with dedicated settings for full-face wrinkles and mild-to-moderate inflammatory acne.

Its wrinkle setting combines amber, red and near-infrared wavelengths. Its acne setting combines blue and red light. Every wavelength is intentional, documented and delivered through a purpose-built LED system.

This post is not about diminishing another business or treatment. Different services can have different purposes and benefits. It is simply about helping you understand what you are receiving and empowering you to ask informed questions before booking.

Because professional skincare should include more than a beautiful experience—it should also include education, transparency and thoughtful treatment choices. 💚

Brazilian Waxing: Your First Appointment Doesn’t Have to Be Awkward 🤍

If you’ve never had a Brazilian wax, sometimes the nerves beforehand are worse than the appointment itself. 😄

A few things can make that first visit easier:

Let the hair grow long enough for the wax to grip it, and avoid shaving between appointments. Wear comfortable clothing that won’t rub freshly waxed skin afterward, and tell me if you’re using products or medications that may make your skin more sensitive.

And please—ask questions.

You don’t need to know waxing etiquette before you arrive. You don’t need to apologize for your body. And you definitely don’t need to worry about whether I’ve “seen this before.” I have. 😂

My job is to keep the appointment professional, explain what we’re doing, protect your skin, and make you as comfortable as possible.

Once you begin waxing consistently, appointments often become easier because we’re working with the hair-growth cycle rather than starting over after shaving.

If nerves have been the only thing keeping you from booking, I hope this takes a little of the mystery out of it. 💗
