Let's talk about melasma.

Melasma is a chronic form of hyperpigmentation that shows up as brown or grayish patches on the face — most commonly on the cheeks, bridge of the nose, chin, and above the upper lip. It usually appears symmetrically on both sides of the face, develops over time, and unfortunately does not go away on its own without treatment.

What causes it?
Sun exposure is the biggest trigger but it is not the only one. Hormones play a huge role — pregnancy, birth control, and hormonal changes can all trigger melasma. Genetics also play a part. And something most people don't realize — heat can trigger melasma just as much as the sun can.

How to keep it from getting worse:

✨ Wear SPF every single day — broad spectrum SPF 50 or higher
✨ Avoid peak sun hours
✨ Wear hats and protective clothing when outdoors
✨Avoid heat triggers like saunas and hot yoga
✨Use brightening ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid in your routine

How to treat it:
The most important first step is to seek professional help so you can start on a skincare routine that is right for your specific skin. Treatment may include ingredients such as vitamin C, tranexamic acid, azelaic acid, and niacinamide, as well as professional skin care treatments such as chemical peels. And of course — a consistent skincare routine is everything.

If melasma is something you are dealing with I would love to help you put together a plan. 💙

Skin Maintenance Monday 💙
We have talked about cleansers and moisturizers — today let's talk about the powerhouse of your skincare routine: your serum.

Here is the simplest way I can explain it — your serum treats and your moisturizer seals everything in. That is why you cannot skip it if you truly want to target your specific skin concerns.

And here is the thing — everyone needs a serum. Whether you are dealing with hyperpigmentation, acne, aging, dehydration or sensitivity - there is a serum formulated specifically for what your skin needs.

Here is where serums fit in your routine: after cleansing and before your moisturizer. Always.

Here is what to look for based on your skin concern:
🧴 Aging — retinoids or retinol alternatives, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and niacinamide
🧴 Acne — salicylic acid, retinol, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid
🧴 Hyperpigmentation — vitamin C and tranexamic acid
🧴 Dry skin — hyaluronic acid, squalane, and ceramides
🧴 Sensitive skin — hyaluronic acid, panthenol, allantoin, and squalane

Not sure which serum is right for your skin? That is exactly what I am here for — any questions ? Reach out I would love to hear from you!

Let's talk about at home dermaplaning. I am professionally trained in dermaplaning and even I don't dermaplane myself — I schedule with a professional and here is why you should too.

I know those little razors look harmless. And I know the tutorials make it look easy. But here is what they are not showing you.

At home Dermaplaning tools are not the same as professional surgical grade blades. They are duller, they are not sterile, and without proper training you have no way of knowing the right angle, pressure, or technique for your specific skin. And that is where things go wrong.

Here is what can happen when Dermaplaning goes wrong at home:

❌ Cuts and nicks are more common than you think — at home blades are dull compared to professional surgical grade tools, which means you have to press harder, and that is where the real damage begins.
And in more serious cases — a Minneapolis dermatologist recently treated a patient for a staph infection from at home Dermaplaning. A staph infection 🦠. From a face razor. 😳

❌ Spreading bacteria across your face — especially dangerous if you have any active breakouts. That blade does not know the difference between peach fuzz and a pimple.

❌ Damaged skin barrier leaving your skin red, inflamed, and sensitive to everything.

❌ Scarring and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation that can take months to treat.

Please do not do this at home.

Professional Dermaplaning is not just about the blade. At Blue Ridge Spa the facial and products used are completely customized to your specific skin type and needs — something no YouTube tutorial can replicate. It is safe, effective, and one of my favorite treatments to offer here at Blue Ridge Spa.

Leave the blades to the professionals. 💙

👀Now that everything is in place and ready I can finally let everyone know! 💙

I am so excited to introduce the Rezenerate Nano Infusion Facial to Blue Ridge Spa. I have been waiting to share this for a while now. I am Rezenerate certified and proud to be the only authorized Esthetician in Rutherford County to offer this treatment.

So what exactly is it?

The Rezenerate Nano Infusion Facial is a non invasive, pain free treatment that uses nanotechnology to create hundreds of thousands of microscopic channels on the surface of your skin — boosting product absorption from the typical 2-10% all the way up to 50%. That means every serum and nutrient infused into your skin during this treatment actually gets where it needs to go — deep into the skin where collagen production happens.

No needles. No pain. No downtime. Just results.

A specialized wand with pyramid shaped Nano-structures smaller than a human hair glides over your skin, opening those micro channels and allowing powerful serums to pe*****te deeply for immediate and long term results.

Here is what it can treat:
✨ Fine lines and wrinkles
✨ Sun damage
✨ Congestion
✨ Anti-aging
✨ Dehydration
✨ Uneven tone and texture

And because it works on all skin types and tones — this treatment is truly for everyone.

The Rezenerate Nano Infusion Facial is a 75 minute standalone service for $90 and includes treatment of the eye and lip area. Want to add the eye and lip Nano Infusion to your existing facial? That is available as a $25 add on. 👁👄

Check out the before and after photos and see what this treatment can do for your skin after just one session.

📌 Skin Tip Tuesday. One of the most common questions I hear is "what is my skin type?" — and it is actually one of the most important things you can know about your skin.

Because when you know your skin type, you can choose the right products and build a routine that actually works.

Here is a simple way to figure out your skin type at home. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, pat it dry, and leave it completely bare for one hour — no products at all. Then take a look in the mirror and pay attention to how your skin looks and feels.

Here is what you might see:

✅ Normal skin — your skin feels balanced and comfortable. Not too oily, not too dry. Your pores are small and your complexion is even. Lucky you!
✅ Dry skin — your skin feels tight, looks dull, and may have some flaky or rough patches. It may even feel like it is pulling after you cleanse. Dry skin produces less oil than it needs so you will find no visible pores
✅ Oily skin — your skin looks shiny and feels slick, especially across your forehead, nose, and chin. Your pores may appear larger. Oily skin produces more oil than it needs.
✅ Combination skin — your T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) is oily and shiny but your cheeks feel normal or dry. You will find larger pores in the T-zone than in the other areas. This is actually one of the most common skin types.
✅Sensitive skin — your skin feels easily irritated, looks red, and reacts to products, weather changes, or certain ingredients. Sensitive skin can actually occur alongside any of the other skin types so the pores can be larger or no visible pores.

Knowing your skin type is the first step to building a routine that truly works for you.

And if you are still not sure — that is exactly what I am here for. Book a Skin Consultation at blueridgespaNC.com I would love to help you!

If you missed my previous post about cleansers and how important it is to use the right one for your skin type, go back and check it out — because today we are talking about the next essential step in your routine: moisturizer.

And yes — every single skin type needs one. No exceptions.
Here is what moisturizer does for each skin type:

🧴 Oily and acne prone skin — this is the one that surprises people the most. If you have oily skin and you are skipping moisturizer, your skin is actually producing more oil to make up for it. Using the right moisturizer prevents that overproduction, protects your skin barrier, helps prevent acne, and soothes inflammation while keeping your skin hydrated. Look for something water based and oil free.

🧴 Dry skin — moisturizer rehydrates your skin's top layer, locks in moisture, soothes that uncomfortable tightness, reduces flakiness, and softens your skin's texture. It also strengthens your skin barrier. Look for a heavy lipid rich cream that seals in moisture.

🧴 Sensitive and compromised skin — moisturizer acts as a protective shield. It prevents moisture loss, restores lipids, soothes irritation, and creates a barrier that keeps irritants and allergens from triggering reactions. Look for something fragrance free and hypoallergenic, rich in ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

🧴 Normal skin — your skin is already beautifully balanced so the goal is simply to maintain it. A lightweight gel cream or lotion with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin is all you need to keep that balance and protect your skin barrier without feeling heavy or clogging your pores.

The right moisturizer for your skin type makes all the difference. Keep it simple, stay consistent, and your skin will thank you. 💙

Go visit Foothills Healthcare !

📌 SAVE THIS for the next time you feel completely drained.

Between the intense heat, outdoor workouts, and summer travel, your body is losing hydration and essential nutrients faster than you can replace them with water alone. When you drink water or take oral supplements, they have to pass through your digestive system, meaning you only absorb about 20-30% of the nutrients.
Our customized IV hydration treatments bypass the digestive system entirely. They deliver a powerful blend of vitamins, minerals, and fluids directly into your bloodstream for 100% immediate absorption.

When to book an IV Drip:
💧 After a long weekend in the sun
💧 When you feel a summer cold coming on
💧 Before or after a long flight
💧 When you’ve hit a wall of chronic fatigue
💧 After an intense athletic event or workout
Walk in feeling drained, walk out feeling completely restored. Available at both our Rutherfordton and Tryon locations.
