Colder months are on the horizon and can cause dry, itchy and irritated skin! Here’s a few tips to keep your skin moisturized and healthy:

1. Limit shower time and temperature. It’s tempting to take a long steamy shower but it can easily irritate your skin. Try 5-10 minutes in a lukewarm temperature. If you’re getting out of the shower with red skin, it’s too hot!

2. Less exfoliating, more moisturizing! Your skin’s natural oils aren’t producing as much during colder months and you don’t want to continuously take off the oils that are there. Use unscented lotions or fur oil to aid in your skin’s moisture levels.

3. Ease up on the astringents and toners. Many astringents contain alcohol which can dry you out.

4. Stay hydrated! Your water intake directly correlates to your skin’s hydration levels.

Just like your face, the skin on your body can produce more oil or be dryer and not all ingrowns are caused by the same thing. Depending on these factors and many others, your cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing might vary.
