If you are familiar with our Joint and Muscle Rub, then you know that frankincense is the star ingredient! Herbal Rose is proud to source frankincense, or Boswellia resin from FairSource Botanicals. This is a business that maintains ethical and sustainable sourcing of Boswellia by working directly with the communities involved in the harvesting and sorting of this sacred resin.

It is important to highlight those companies who uphold these values because the reality is that many plants in the botanical trade industry lack traceability and verified ethical practices. This directly impacts those whose livelihoods depend on the harvesting of certain plant materials. It is up to product makers and consumers alike to value supporting companies like FairSource Botanicals, so the botanical industry can shift toward a more ethical, sustainable, and regenerative approach to growing or harvesting botanicals.

Your purchase of our Joint and Muscle Rub means that you value quality, sustainability, and fair trade practices. If you want to learn more about the frankincense industry or how you can lend your support, please check out the following: fairsourcebotanicals.com and savefrankincense.org

On this Mental Health Monday, consider practicing this unburdening exercise to help you move through tough emotions or let go of lingering worries. We can lean on the cycles of nature and the elements to receive our unwanted emotions and burdens, which is especially helpful for this time of year. When we remember that nature is always there for us, we can utilize this practice of release so ultimately we can show up with more love, compassion, and patience.

Let this be an opportunity to liberate yourself of anything that no longer feels supportive. All you have to do is find a quiet space to envision this process and let it take as much time as necessary. Release any attachments that make you feel like you need to be everything to everyone. This moment is for you, receive this gift to lighten your load.

This exercise comes from our Guide for Winter Wellness which is offered when you sign up for our mailing list. ✨

Now that the holiday season has ended, it is not surprising that many of us feel depleted. The lack of light, staying up late while visiting loved ones, and the overindulgence in food and drink can throw us out of balance. As a herbalist, I embrace some of my favorite herbal supports whenever I am feeling run down.

I intentionally created this kit to help you stay well during the winter season because leaning on herbal teas and massaging in skin loving botanicals can be great strategies to warm up and feel nourished.

What's included:
- herbal loose-leaf tea for immune support + tea ball infuser for convenience
- soothing and cooling aromatic rub to support respiratory health
- body butter and lip balm to hydrate skin

And just like that, we are at the end of the year. Before we welcome in the new year, I invite you to use this time to reflect on 2022. This approach can help you figure out the areas where you grew, how you were challenged, and which connections received the most of your time and energy.

You also have permission to not make any New Year's resolutions. Instead of committing to ambitious plans to change your health or relationships, let go of the pressure to make promises, commitments, or plans. Personally, I don't embark on any resolutions until the spring. Living in alignment with the seasons allows me to let go of this pressure, since the winter time embodies restoration and dreaming.

I challenge you to reflect upon the ways that you want to grow and be intentional in order to create the life you want. Share how you are practicing this resistance and how you embody winter medicine!

The winter season truly embodies the water element. For those of us living in the northern part of the country we know this to be true because the earth is blanketed in layers of snow. Even if you don't experience snowy elements, there's no denying the importance of water in this season.

We may feel this deep knowing of winter medicine by tuning in to and leaning on sources of watery nourishment. This can be experienced through our foods, beverages, and daily personal care routines. Practice a little resistance to the messaging that promotes "summer" energy all year round and start honoring your body's needs. Nourish yourself with winter medicine to feel resilient.

On this solstice evening, I am embracing the darkness that permeates this winter season. Normally I struggle to get through winter, something that most people can resonate with, but this year has led me to a different perspective to actually respect what nature is lovingly calling us to do. It is a message to focus on rest, nourishment, and reflection. Nature is encouraging us to remember our ancestral history, for when we live in harmony with the seasons we feel supported, connected, and at peace.

Here are some ways to feel aligned with winter's arrival:
- Set up an altar honoring nature with candles, rocks, and foraged material
- Welcome back the light by lighting candles
- Eat more soup
- Spend time in front of a fire
- Connect with people who deeply nourish you
- Cancel plans

Indulge your spirit by taking in the beauty of the outdoors. Let this be your reminder to step outside today and focus on your breath. ✨

Anytime I start to feel the tendrils of a spiral of overwhelm, or notice that I’ve been staring at a screen for many hours, I like to recenter myself by getting outside. Walking away allows me to gain perspective and clarity on a given situation. By incorporating this centering practice I have felt empowered to create physical and emotional boundaries which helps me to feel resilient.

I hope you will feel inspired to change your perspective and get a dose of nature today.
