In Chinese medicine, the gallbladder is considered a “yang” organ. It is the partner of the liver and also connected to the wood element, spring season and growth. Physically the gallbladder breaks down fats and helps waste drain from the liver. Energetically, this meridian is very likely to have blockages. With 44 points, it runs from head to toe, highlighting the eyes, tendons, tears, and nails. Common symptoms are headaches, tinnitus, jaw tension, shoulder pain, hip, sciatic, knee, ankle, and foot pain. Poor diet choices can affect the gallbladder to cause poor sleep, a bitter taste, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, digestive issues, and a feeling of heaviness.
The gallbladder meridian is the master decision-maker. While the liver is associated with dreaming and plotting, the gallbladder puts those plans into action. “I can’t believe they had the gall to do that!” completely captures the energy of the gallbladder. On the other hand, if the gallbladder meridian is weak or blocked a person can become uncertain, indecisive, or lack passion.
Ways to improve your gallbladder energy are so simple in the spring! Move. Go for a walk. You can jog, dance, do yoga. Get your stuck energy moving. Get acupuncture. Eat your greens. Plant seeds and tend to their growth. Be unafraid to emerge into something new.
