This was at a time when men did not go to hair salons, they went to barbers, and they definitely did not grow their hair long, blonde, and get it curled! George did all of these things, and as a result people would watch him through the windows while he was getting his hair done. George set the stage for fabulousness, and he did it in St. Manhattan Hair Design was named for the love of high style in New York City, specifically the island city of Manhattan, where a local music club called CBGB (short for Country, BlueGrass, and Blues) inadvertently became a forum for early acts responsible for starting the punk rock movement; namely the Ramones, Misfits, Television, Blondie, and the Talking Heads among many others during the 1970s. The raw, rebellious, grassroots spirit of CBGB is carried on in the form of a hair salon per the owner’s vision. The punk rock scene may have been wild and out-of-control, but those who partook of it found themselves at home with like-minded individuals. In that sense, Manhattan Hair Design also captures the spirit of family, togetherness, and for something amazing coming from small beginnings.
