An ode.

UPDATE ⭐️ Gem Salon + Spa will remain closed beyond May 4th, the date when Minnesota’s executive order requiring closure of hair salons is scheduled to expire. Although Governor Walz has not indicated (yet) whether the executive order will be extended, we have decided to remain closed until we can be more certain that operating the salon will not put our clients, staff, and others at risk.

We look forward to re-opening soon with a clearer understanding of the best ways to protect clients and staff, together with a renewed spirit of confidence, hope, and joy. We love our work and we love our clients. 💞 Until we get back behind the chairs we continue to seek ways to serve you.

A cautionary tale.
Isolation is no time to try and colour your hair yourself.
Attempted colouring and bleaching done at home.
Result - Melted hair, Bald spots.
Remedy - Unfixable.
Please do not attempt to colour or cut your hair whilst in isolation.
It’s not the products that make a hairdresser,it’s the education,experience and prescription to your hair.
Just one reason you need a professional licensed,trained hairdresser.
Wait....the results will be worth it!

The current state of events has changed rapidly for local businesses in the St. Paul area regarding COVID-19. We value each of you and our community as a whole and want to ensure your safety and the safety of our staff. As of this moment, Gem Salon + Spa has made the decision to close until further notice. Let’s talk about realistic expectations!

In order to maintain the integrity of your hair, you have to lighten in stages. I understand that not everybody loves copper hair as much as I do, but I’m sure no one wants to see chunks of hair melting off their heads either.



I have been coloring my hair a level 3 (dark brown) every 4 weeks for over 2 years. It does take more time to break through color treated hair. I’ve shown my first two lightening processes. Please have patience with your hair and your stylist. We all want what’s best for you!
