Whereas on February 21st Brendan Depa was a 17-year-old emotionally disturbed and overly medicated child diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, autism spectrum disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder had physically attacked his teacher’s aide after confiscation of his electronic device, a device brought to class at the school’s request, has been charged as an adult and is being held in Flagler County Jail on $1 Million dollars bond pending sentencing. Despite strict instructions written into his special education plan stating that the device is never to be taken from him as this can trigger aggression, it was taken anyway.

Two Caucasian students from the same school district also attacked school staff and never spent a single day in jail. The Black community maintains that Brendan should have never been charged as an adult, should have never been judged competent to stand trial, and should have never been counseled to enter a guilty plea.

Brendan Depa is a victim of the Matanzas High School, the Flagler County School District, an irresponsible special education team, an irresponsible special education department, an irresponsible clinical treatment team, and the racist florida judicial system which certifies it’s disproportionately Black juveniles as adults more than any other state in America.

Please join us as we exercise our 1st amendment constitutional rights to peaceably assemble and petition the court for a redress of our grievance. We must show Brendan that the Black community stands with him at this most difficult time in his young life. He is potentially facing a maximum sentence of 30 years……
