This is one of those games that looks really simple, but they’re practicing SO many skills without even realizing it.

I call out a state and they have to work together to find it on the map. They’re listening for the word, searching for it, reading the state names, matching what they hear to what they see, and slowly building a mental picture of where everything is.

They get 2 points for every state they find correctly, and right now they need 16 points to win.

If they get stuck, I give them clues — maybe it’s near an ocean, maybe it’s really cold, maybe it’s on the other side of the country. And if it’s a state we’ve already learned about, I’ll ask them to tell me something they remember about it too.

And my favorite rule: they have to work together. If they start fighting or working against each other, they lose a point 😂

It brings together reading, listening, memory, geography, problem solving and teamwork but it’s still simple enough that they can actually do it, feel successful, and get better every time we play.
