I’d say about 60–70% of your final tan comes down to proper prep, because your skin is what the solution is developing on. If the skin isn’t properly prepped, even the best solution or artist can’t perform the way it’s meant to.

Here’s what’s really happening behind the scenes:
🩵Exfoliation removes dead skin buildup so the tan develops on a smooth, even surface instead of clinging to dry or rough areas

🩵Oil-free products matter because anything like lotions, oils, deodorant, or skincare residue can create a barrier that blocks the solution from absorbing evenly

🩵Clean, bare skin allows the tan to develop consistently across the entire body instead of grabbing differently in certain spots

Proper prep is what controls how even your color develops, how smooth your finish is, and how true the tone comes out to the actual formula being used. It impacts things like patchiness, uneven darkness, streaking, and how the tan breaks down over time!!
