A site about all things health, nutrition, and fitness. It explores the path to happiness through loving yourself and staying present in your life.

I started this page because of my love for nutrition and fitness. I feel that they are essential facets to living a long, healthful, and happy life. As a former (and sometimes current ;) compulsive/emotional/binge eater, I understand the struggles associated with loving yourself unconditionally and in whatever form you are currently in. I have learned that the journey to health, happiness, and true joy can only be found through living a life of presence and love.

So on point! If you take the path of deprivation to get there and your motivation is based on hating your body, you won't magically love yourself by the end of it. The destination TO love and happiness is THROUGH love and happiness and enjoying the journey along the way.

This is why we love her...

After 30 years of working with compulsive eaters, I can confidently say that I've never met anyone who has ever lost weight — and kept it off — by deprivation. We are sensory, pleasure-loving beings. It is not just calories that fill us up, but the joy we take from eating them. We don't overeat because we take too much pleasure from food, but because we don't take enough. When pleasure ends, overeating begins.

Imagine what your life would be like if you let yourself eat with passion. If you felt entitled, no matter what you weighed, to eat with gusto. You may discover that foods you loved — as well as those you didn't — truly do give you pleasure, and there's no price tag attached. And that's how it should be. Why not be astonished by the crisp taste of an apple? Why not revel in the smooth texture of an olive? Since you need to eat to live, why let one moment of joy — even one — pass you by?

Haha maybe if you see a newbie at the gym that doesn't seem to know what they're doing, you could help them out. ;)

Haha.

This is pretty much the reason I started this page. I struggled with emotional/compulsive eating and nothing helped until I finally began to explore the reasons WHY I would choose to numb my feelings with food . For me it was an escape, a moment (albeit fleeting) where I could shut off all the noise and chatter around me, and in my own brain, and feel nothing....until it was over, and not only was I still left with those unaddressed feelings, but also now with guilt and frustration for making a choice that directly conflicted with my goals and beliefs about who I wanted to be long term.

I would like to tell you that this is never an issue for me anymore, but that's not true. However, the progress that I've made in the last couple years is incredible. It's not one of those things that you can stop cold turkey (at least I couldn't). It is a practice, a daily, sometimes hourly, revisiting of what I believe about myself and the world and who I want to be. And I've gradually had to shift that focus to a more positive and uplifting picture.

If you struggle with this, don't lose hope. It IS possible to break free. It isn't easy, you must first be willing to shine a light on thoughts and feelings that you've hidden deep deep down and be willing to change or accept them and then move forward with awareness, compassion, and love.

I've decided it's impossible to look like a lady while eating a baby kale salad. 😋

I too just found out about the phenomenon known as the "bikini bridge" and she sums up my feelings perfectly....

Never take those precious moments for granted.

Ha if only it worked that way. Like this post if this is you. :)

Kudos to you if getting fit was on your New Years resolution list! Keep up the good work!

Certainly unfair, but the more aware you are, the better you can set up your circumstances for success.

This made me lol. Building a great set of glutes is arguably the hardest thing you'll set out to do along your fitness journey. If you ever really achieve posterior superiority then you must, by obligation, share your success. ;)

Just a reminder to be safe if you're taking your shapely buttocks out on the town this weekend.

If you're still in the process of making your buns bulletproof, try the three exercises I demonstrate and narrate in this video from Experience Life Magazine: http://experiencelife.com/video/gluteus-maximus-booty-building-exercises-from-nick-nilsson/
