I guess it was inevitable this would happen eventually. I’d started bleaching out my hair in 2020 as an act of rebellion when I had finally had enough of my conservative upbringing and finally embraced who I really wanted to be. It was liberating to finally be able to express myself the way I wanted to without judgement. Well, there was judgement but I finally allowed myself not to care about their opinion. My hair was mine and that was that.
Almost seven years later I’m still learning more about myself and even though I like bright and vibrant colors I’d like to have a color that I do not have to worry about showering with cold water, swimming or even touching up at home. I’m also not the same person I was seven years ago either. I didn’t even think that was possible to be honest. At the time I thought that was going to be my final evolution but I was entirely wrong.
Truth is I’ve been wanting to do this for the last couple of years. A long time ago go, a hairstylist I’d really admired, told me that “Hairstylist who have black hair can’t do hair.”
I wholeheartedly disagree. I know many successful and very talented hairstylist who have black hair. I didn’t realize it had created a complex in me that I’d been holding onto. It put me right back into the pews at church that had abused me for so long. This idea that somehow myself worth was based on my appearance. I’m talented, a vivid artist and I can do fun hair while having black hair.

I always love doing her hair. I think her natural sparkle add to her nebula color and just makes it magical.

Happy pride month. I was 16 in the photo before, sheltered home schooled girl. HEAVELY closeted and deeply depressed and abused. I hated myself. I believed my attraction to women made me a pedofile so I started self harming and starving myself as punishment. Being bi was a relief and confusing at the same time. I thought to myself, well at least I’ll marry a man then nobody will have to know. But it killed me to not be myself. I felt like I’d always have to be on guard with everything I’d say, wear or behave. It quite literally almost made me take my own life. Christianity wasn’t for me anymore. A gospel that teaches you are born into sin for loving someone of the same gender is a god I didn’t want to follow anymore. It was the hardest decision I had to make but it in the end saved my life. For all of my q***r family who have stuck with me through all of the “I love the sinner but hate the sin” ignorant bu****it I’ve said over the years. My love for you is so deep that I cannot possibly explain it here. I don’t know if I’d be here it today if it wasn’t for your kindness and love.🏳️🌈
