As we March for Meals, we’re beginning to share the stories of our 2026 Community Champions, and it feels only right to start by honoring Carol Santry, our Honorary Community Champion (in memoriam).

Carol devoted more than 35 years of volunteer service to Meals For The Elderly. Her journey began as a child volunteering alongside her parents, and that early example of serving others became a lifelong calling.

Over the years, Carol had her own delivery route and often volunteered with friends, building lasting relationships with the recipients she served. She didn’t just deliver meals. She delivered compassion, conversation, and faith. Carol would sometimes bring communion or cascarones to share a moment of joy with recipients who welcomed it.

Her daughter Camille shared that volunteering with Meals For The Elderly always felt natural. Carol had grown up watching her own parents and grandparents serve others, and that spirit carried through their family.

“She believed that instead of wringing your hands about a problem, you roll up your sleeves and help,” Camille said.

Carol’s kindness left a lasting impression on the people she visited. Camille even laughs remembering the time Carol substituted for her on a route and the recipients teased that they liked her mom better.

Though Carol passed away last year, her legacy continues to inspire us. Her story reminds us that serving others can become a way of life that touches generations.
