A curly cut shouldn’t be something that just happens to you. 🤍

I take photos throughout my curly cuts, not just before and after.

Why? Because it lets us step back, look at the shape together, and talk about what I’m seeing as the cut develops. You get to be part of the process instead of waiting until the end to see what I did.

This client knew she needed a cut. She also knew that meant losing some length, but like so many of my tight curled girls, she really wants to grow her hair longer.

Then she told me something that stuck with me, she had never left a salon after a haircut with her hair still below her shoulders.

So keeping her length mattered.

We talked through what needed to come off, what we could preserve, and how we could create a better shape while still honoring her goal of longer hair. As the cut developed, she could actually see the changes we were making along the way.

The result? We removed the ends that needed to go, gave all of that beautiful density a shape that lets her curls move and define. And, she left with her hair still below her shoulders. 🤍

Because a great curly cut isn’t about taking off as much hair as possible to create a dramatic before and after. It’s about listening to your goals, working with your curls, and making sure you feel comfortable with the process from beginning to end.

This is what happens when you keep the length but lose the weight.

She wanted to keep her beautiful long hair, so we did. Instead of sacrificing length, I reshaped her curls with intentional layering to give them more room to move, spring up and actually show off their pattern.

The result is more volume, more definition, and a shape that feels completely different without losing the length she loves.

She wanted to keep her beautiful long hair, so we left her overall length and took about 4 inches from her layers to create a shorter, more intentional shape.

Removing that extra weight through the layers gave her curls more room to spring up, move, and define without sacrificing the length she loves.

That’s one of my favorite things about a customized curly cut.. sometimes you don’t need to lose the length to completely change the shape.
