There came a point several years ago where the two of us decided modesty was no longer a topic we were going to address regularly.

That made some people REALLY mad and others REALLY happy.

Some women have told us that we’re straying from God’s truth for not making modesty the focus of our ministry.

Here’s the truth.

When we started Girl Defined over 10 years ago modesty was the HOTTEST topic. Women everywhere were asking us to talk about modesty. The blog posts got amazing views. It seemed we were filling a need by having those conversations.

BUT…. as time went on and we grew and matured in our relationship with Christ… we just couldn’t continue making modesty a central conversation.

It’s not a CENTRAL theme of Scripture. So why should it be a central theme for GDM?

The two of us are much more concerned about the heart than outward appearance.

We’ve seen (in our own lives and in others) how EASY it is to “look” a certain way and have a heart that’s far from God.

The goal of our ministry isn’t to get women “looking” a certain way, but to guide them toward deeper intimacy with Christ.

We actually unpack how we strayed in this legalistic way of thinking inside our newest book “Made to Be She: Reclaiming God’s Plan for Fearless Femininity.”
