Fact or Myth? Massage Induces Labor 🤰✨
Myth.
Massage does not induce labor — and yes, our Massage Director Erin has even tried. 😉
At Resolve Wellness, we hear this one all the time. While certain pressure points are often rumored to “start” labor, there’s no strong clinical evidence that massage alone will trigger it.
What prenatal massage does do:
✔️ Reduce stress hormones
✔️ Relieve low back, hip, and sciatic discomfort
✔️ Improve circulation
✔️ Support better sleep
✔️ Decrease swelling
Pregnancy places significant biomechanical stress on the body — especially the lumbar spine and hips. Massage helps regulate the nervous system and ease muscular tension, making it an incredible support tool during this season.
It won’t send you into labor.
But it will help your body feel more supported.
When your car broke down, but your a massage therapist 😜
🦷 TMJ vs. TMJD — do you know the difference?
Here's something we hear all the time: "I have TMJ." But here's the truth — everyone has a TMJ!
TMJ stands for Temporomandibular Joint, which is simply the joint connecting your jaw to your skull. You have two of them, one on each side of your face. It's anatomy — not a condition.
The correct term for what most people are experiencing is TMJD — Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction. This refers to the pain, clicking, popping, limited range of motion, headaches, and tension that affect that joint and the surrounding muscles.
Knowing the difference matters because it helps us communicate more accurately with your care team — and ultimately get you better, more targeted treatment. 💙
At Resolve Wellness, we specialize in massage therapy techniques that directly address TMJD symptoms — from jaw tension to facial pain and beyond. If you've been told you "have TMJ," you likely mean TMJD, and we may be able to help!

Our stomach, after long back-to-back sessions, starts talking as much as we do with our favorite client 😭

Rolled your ankle? Here’s why massage helps reduce swelling.
An ankle sprain — especially an inversion sprain — causes micro-tearing of the ligaments, which triggers inflammation and fluid buildup in the joint. That swelling is part of the healing process… but too much of it can delay recovery and limit mobility.
Targeted sports massage and manual lymphatic techniques can help manage swelling by:
• Stimulating lymphatic drainage to move excess fluid out of the area
• Improving venous return (blood flow back to the heart)
• Reducing tissue congestion around the ankle joint
• Decreasing muscle guarding in the calves and peroneals
• Restoring gentle mobility to prevent stiffness
The lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump like the heart — it relies on movement and muscle contraction. Strategic, light-pressure massage helps guide fluid toward lymph nodes, supporting the body’s natural healing process.
Important: In the acute phase (first 24–48 hours), pressure should be gentle and directed proximally (up the leg), not aggressively into the injured ligament.
Swelling control = better range of motion, less stiffness, and a smoother return to activity.
Hamstring tightness after training isn’t always “just tightness.”
For athletes, that lingering pull in the back of your leg can signal overload, compensation, or incomplete healing from a previous strain.
At Resolve Wellness, our approach goes beyond relaxation massage. We use performance-based techniques designed specifically for active bodies:
🔹 Active release techniques to break up adhesions
🔹 Cross-fiber friction to support collagen remodeling in healing tissue
🔹 Assisted stretching + soft tissue work to restore length without overstressing the muscle
🔹 Glute and hip flexor integration work to reduce hamstring overcompensation
🔹 Circulatory techniques to decrease inflammation and support recovery
Massage helps improve blood flow, reduce neuromuscular guarding, and restore mobility — all critical for sprinting, lifting, and explosive movement.
Don’t wait until it turns into a full tear. Take care of it early and stay in your season.
