I loved her teaching style and the information she shared during her waxing demo yesterday SWWON | Sugaring & Waxing Convention

She's definitely a well educated esthetician, and I would encourage you to take classes with her if you want to be a waxing specialist.

One thing I shared with waxing professionals yesterday surprised quite a few people...

🗨️ I recommend that my clients wait about 10–12 days after waxing before they begin exfoliating using a dry brush.

💡 Think about what just happened to the skin during a wax...
We removed the hair from the follicle, while also removing some of the superficial dead skin cells from the surface.
The skin can be sensitized and tender afterward.
There is no hair and no dead skin build-up.

Around 10–12 days later, I have my clients begin gently dry brushing on dry skin about 3–4 times a week.
By then, dead skin continues to accumulate and we’re getting closer to seeing new hair growth, so exfoliation can help prevent buildup around the follicle and allow the new hair to emerge more easily.

Of course, every client is different. Hair type, density, growth patterns, skin sensitivity and history of ingrown hairs all matter.
If someone is prone to ingrowns, an appropriate ingrown-hair product can also be recommended based on their skin and sensitivities (my favorite product is PFB Vanish).

This has been part of the aftercare I’ve recommended to my waxing clients for 20 years.

As professionals, I think it’s important to understand the WHY behind our recommendations, rather than simply repeating what we were taught.

✅ The more experience you gain, the more you’ll start noticing patterns. That observation is how you develop your critical thinking and your own Skin Detective skills.

Pay attention to the skin in front of you and make recommendations based on what that specific client needs, not simply because you’re following a protocol.
