Nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord don't heal well on their own. Peripheral nerves fibers, however, do. They heal, but slowly. Peripheral nerve fibers will heal after a trauma, entrapment, etc., but at a rate of about 1mm every 3 days, or 1cm per month. Bodywork to free up the nerves can expedite this.

Myofascia release can be effective
Restricted tissue around the facet joint capsules of the spine can create chronic subluxations and muscle inhibition, but won't resolve with adjustments alone. These restrictions can sometimes be the true culprit when someone has been getting adjusted repeatedly, but a given area keeps going out of alignment. Quality soft-tissue work can make for a more lasting fix.

You've heard the expression use it or lose it? Sometimes this is literally true. As we reach our later years, a process called fibrosis occurs where muscles degenerate and become thick with fibrotic tissue. It's not reversible but it IS preventable through movement and exercise.

Your nerves have feelings too. Our nerves actually have their OWN nerves -- called the nervi nervorum. They are responsible not only for the localized pain that can result from direct nerve stimulation, but are also thought to be major players in neuropathic pain and various chronic pain syndromes. Nervi nervorum are often the culprit with nerve pain that doesn't radiate, such as the deep butt pain that can result from sciatic nerve entrapment.
