Unlike steam distillation, which uses heat and water to carry volatile compounds from the plant into an essential oil, CO₂ extraction uses pressurized carbon dioxide at relatively low temperatures. When the pressure is released, the CO₂ returns to a gas and dissipates, leaving behind a concentrated extract with a broad spectrum of ginger root’s aromatic compounds, including the deeper, warmer constituents that give the extract its characteristic spice and complexity.
A small amount becomes part of White Pumpkin, our seasonal essential oil candle, where ginger CO₂ is layered with cinnamon CO₂, allspice, and organic vanilla.
