Improving fresh food access in Southeastern San Diego is part of a broad-based movement to build social equity, giving way to healthy neighborhoods.

Our goal of improving fresh food access in Southeastern San Diego is part of a broad based movement to build healthy neighborhoods. PNV has embraced urban farming and community engagement as our primary tools to improve food access, food security, and environmental wellness. We use a social determinant of health model which views food equity and self-determination as key factors for achieving better health.

Part of the process in creating an equitable food system in the Good Food District is building a community connection around urban agriculture and hyperlocal good food. A fun way for us to do this is by hosting celebratory evening events at the garden where we can offer our community good food, tasty drinks, live music and art, and raise money for a good cause - so that’s what we’re doing!

Join us on October 20th as we celebrate National Food Day early with our Food Justice Soirée at Mt. Hope Community Garden. The weather should be cooler for this fall friend-raiser, so we’ll have some homemade chili and fixings (vegan options available), some fall themed garden drinks, live latin jazz, and a local art showcase throughout the garden! Tickets are only $25, and all proceeds go towards our food justice work in Southeastern San Diego.
