But here’s the thing: toners are not judged by what they look like while they’re processing.

They’re judged by the final result.

While processing, you’re seeing concentrated pigment sitting on wet, porous hair. Once that toner is emulsified, rinsed, and dried, the result is often much softer and more reflective than what you saw at the bowl.

This is why formulation matters.

If you understand your level of lift, the underlying pigment you’re working with, and the tone you’re trying to create, there’s no reason to panic when things look a little scary during processing.

For this rose gold, I used Schwarzkopf Professional USA BLONDME Glow Toners 9,5-81 (strawberry) + 9,5-74 (apricot blush)
