✨ It’s officially happening — Thrive & Shine Academy San Diego’s 2026 Prom Prep Experience is in motion! ✨

We are so grateful to be supporting underserved high school seniors across San Diego as they prepare for one of the most special moments of their senior year 🩶

This year, students from San Diego High, Hoover, Lincoln, Morris, Madison, and Mission Bay have signed up to participate in our Prom Prep Experience happening May 1–2, 2026 — a community effort centered around confidence, care, and showing our youth they are worthy of being poured into.

A HUGE thank you to our incredible partners and supporters:

Over these two days, students will receive support through:
✨ Hair prep + styling support
✨ Nail prep services
✨ Prom Glow beauty guidance + beauty bar support
✨ Resources, encouragement, and community care

This is what it looks like when a community comes together for our youth.

our future pros from Paul Mitchell + City College have been signing up NONSTOP and showing out! Now we need a few more licensed beauty professionals to round out the day-of glam team on Saturday, May 2nd at the YMCA Teen Center (8AM–5PM). We’re looking for licensed hairstylists, makeup artists, and a few licensed barbers for backup day-of support just in case students can’t make it to the beauty schools the day before. Thrive & Shine Academy is officially recruiting beauty professionals + general volunteers for our Prom Prep / Prom Makeover 2026 Activation supporting underserved San Diego seniors!

We are partnering with Prom Makeover 2026, working with San Diego Unified School District, and coordinating with Paul Mitchell, City College, and local barber colleges to ensure students are fully prepared for prom with confidence, dignity, and care.

So far:
• 41 students confirmed needing beauty services
• Potential for 50+ more students via SDUSD
• Macy’s has supported 10 seniors with attire
• Kristy secured 250+ FREE prom shoes from LA
• Seamstress volunteers already on board

💄 What We Need MOST Right Now:

We are looking for licensed beauty professionals and experienced volunteers for Prom Day, including:
✨ Licensed hairstylists
✨ Barbers
✨ Makeup artists
✨ Licensed nail techs
✨ Seamstresses / alterations support
✨ Beauty school students (with supervision)

📅 2-Day Community Prom Support Activation:

Friday, May 1 – PROM PREP DAY
• Haircuts / grooming
• Wash + blow dry / silk press prep
• Nail prep / simple nail services
• Dress or attire adjustments / last-minute alterations

Saturday, May 2 – PROM DAY GLAM DAY
Location: Jackie Robinson YMCA Teen Center
Time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Hair styling / updos / finishing styles
• Light to full makeup applications
• Nail finishing / quick glam touch-ups
• Final dress prep / fitting support
• Confidence + self-care support before prom

We are especially looking for day-of support for Saturday, May 2.

We’ll be providing light hair, grooming, and makeup touch-ups for youth receiving professional headshots as they prepare to connect with career opportunities, employers, and community resources.

This is more than beauty — this is confidence, presentation, and career readiness.

We’re excited to be part of the Fancy Detours Teen Girl Expo happening tomorrow from 10AM–2PM at KIPP Adelante Academy in Southeast San Diego (behind the Jacob Center).

This incredible event is designed to empower girls and families with:

💫 Interactive workshops
💫 Local vendors & community resources
💫 Food trucks & sweet treats
💫 Activities, inspiration, and connection

Thrive & Shine Academy San Diego will be there hosting a special Hair Confidence Workshop, where girls will learn simple tips about healthy hair, scalp care, and protecting their crown. 👑

We’ll also be tabling all day, so stop by our booth to:

✨ Try our Self-Care Lab scents
✨ Grab goodies & swag bags
✨ Learn about our creative beauty & entrepreneurship programs

💜 Prom Dress Drop-Off Activation

We will also be collecting prom dress donations for our 2026 Prom Makeover Initiative, which supports teens who may not have access to prom resources.

If you have any gently used prom dresses, formal gowns, or special occasion dresses, feel free to bring them to our booth and donate. Your contribution can help make a young person’s prom experience extra special.
