This guest is a great example of how hair-coloring is NOT one size(or one price) fits all.

This client has the most beautiful, thick hair. Which means a full highlight for her is not going to look the same as a full highlight on a client with very fine hair.

For example, say a full highlight is around 100 foils for $300. 100 foils on a client with very fine hair will end up making her entire head blonde, while 100 foils on a client with very thick hair may only make a subtle change. So a full highlight for a client with thick hair could actually mean doing closer to 200 foils and costing around $600.

And yes, she gets a bleach touch up every 4 weeks.

Let’s talk about being platinum blonde:

It’s the most high maintenance color you can have, and it’s even harder to keep it healthy because the bleach (no matter what brand) is a chemical that inherently dehydrates the hair. And everyone’s hair handles bleach differently, which means one client may have very dry brittle hair with lots of breakage and another client may have long, healthy hair, even though they are taking care of it the same way.

This particular client in the photo has incredibly resilient, strong, thick hair. We also take care of her hair at the salon by being very meticulous about the bleach application, so that it does not overlap and damage her hair during her hair appointments, and in addition, she takes care of it at home…but at the end of the day generics do come into play sometimes.

Yes, we actually use the blow dryers from the ceiling. No, they are not for decoration, although they are a stunning salon feature.

The reason we have them suspended is first for our health as stylists! They are ergonomic in that they allow the blow dryer to be weightless in our hand, preventing wrist stress and carpal tunnel.

The second reason is for the guest’s experience. It allows us to blow dry hair from anywhere around the chair without cords tangling on the guest’s feet or draping across their lap.

The third reason is because it just looks so fabulous honestly!

Can you believe we add yellow to her hair!

When this guest first visited The Salon, she had previous highlights that were nearly platinum, blonde, mixed in with her natural ashy blonde hair. The result almost look like she had gray hair. The solution was to add in highlights that were a warm, buttery tone to soften her look and it now suits her perfectly.

No toner, no filter.

This particular client is lucky in that her natural hair lifts to the shade she desires . But this is not the case for everyone. Many clients require a toner in order to cancel out unwanted tones to achieve a more neutral look… other times toners are used to add additional tones such as strawberry blonde or ashy grey shades.

Remember that if your stylist is using a toner on you, they are not trying to upgrade you to an unnecessary service, it is extremely rare that a clients hair will just naturally left to the color they want.
