Testosterone isn’t just a “male hormone.”
Women produce testosterone too, and it may play a role in more than libido. Research suggests it may be involved in muscle function, lean body mass, mood, energy, and bone health.
So if you’ve been feeling like your body just isn’t responding the way it used to, hormones may be part of the conversation.
The question isn’t simply, “Do women need testosterone?”
It’s whether your levels are appropriate for you and your individual health needs.

Your labs came back normal. Your symptoms didn’t.
This is one of the most common reasons women get dismissed in their forties. A hormone panel gets drawn, the numbers land in range, and the conversation ends there.
Here’s the part that rarely gets explained: perimenopause hormones fluctuate. Estrogen rises and falls week to week, and FSH can read menopausal one week and premenopausal the next. Both results are accurate. Neither one is the whole picture.
For most women over 45, perimenopause is a clinical diagnosis. It’s made from your cycle pattern and your symptoms, not from a blood test. Labs still matter for ruling things out, like thyroid disease, anemia, or pregnancy, and for evaluating early ovarian insufficiency under 40. But they come second.
If you’ve been told everything looks fine and you still don’t feel like yourself, start tracking. Cycle length, sleep, mood, temperature changes. Bring the pattern to your next appointment. It’s harder to dismiss data than a description.

Gaining weight over 40 and can’t understand why?
As estrogen declines during the menopause transition, changes in muscle mass, insulin sensitivity, and where your body stores fat can make weight management feel different than it used to.
That doesn’t mean weight gain is inevitable. Protein, strength training, sleep, and other lifestyle habits become even more important during this stage of life.
Save this for later and share it with someone who’s been frustrated by changes on the scale.

Hot flashes can disrupt your sleep, work, confidence, and quality of life, but you don’t just have to live with them.
While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, there are evidence-based strategies that may help reduce hot flashes and make them more manageable.
In this post, I share:
• Common hot flash triggers
• Simple lifestyle changes that may help
• When to talk with a clinician about treatment options
If hot flashes are affecting your daily life, know that effective treatment options are available, including hormonal and non-hormonal therapies.

“I’ve had a hysterectomy. How will I know if I’m in perimenopause?”
This is one of the most common questions I hear. If your ovaries were left in place, you can still go through perimenopause, even if you no longer have periods.
Without menstrual cycles, you’ll need to pay attention to other changes, like hot flashes, sleep changes, brain fog, mood changes, and weight changes.
Every woman’s experience is different, and symptoms can vary.

Nobody hands you the terms and conditions.
Sleep changes. Brain fog. Joint pain. Vaginal dryness. Urinary symptoms. Mood changes. Weight redistribution. The list is longer than most women expect.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be breaking down the “fine print” of menopause, one topic at a time.
