“Madu” is a term of endearment in Creole meaning “my love, my sweet, my heart”. In contemporary culture, “my do” is an intimate expression of a person’s core being—it’s all about the hair! At Madusalon, these elements converge to create a salon which provides a dynamic and uplifting experience. It starts with the love of hair, specifically the wild, untamed variety and ends with styles that expres

Sometimes the best part of a color correction is the face at the end. 😍🎨

This guest came to Marie deeply unhappy with color she’d received elsewhere. Using the Pintura method, Marie worked curl by curl to bring the color back into harmony with her texture—and that smile tells you how she felt about the result. ✨➰

We’re always happy to be the place you come to for a color rescue. But we’re even happier when we get to give your curls the thoughtful treatment they deserve from the very beginning. 💙👑

Some curls walk in quietly. These curls walked in and Marie’s jaw hit the floor. 😮‍💨👑

Arlevia’s guest came in for her very first visit after a bad curly cut elsewhere—yes, the kind where the curls were cut wet and all the classic curly-cut crimes were committed. 😬✂️

The volume on this crown? Almost the most we’ve ever seen. And the second Marie saw her, she basically demanded that we make her this week’s Curl Crush. 😂💥

Consider this your reminder: your curls deserve someone who understands what they’re looking at before they pick up the scissors. 🌀❤️

Today, we’re remembering our dear friend, Dominique LyVar - Dominique-LyVar Tucker - NYC 🗽Texture Educator/Master Designer

Not only was Dominique a brilliant artist and educator, he was family. In a short amount of time, he became an integral and beloved part of the Madu Crew. Every time he came into our lives, he brought his unmistakable energy with him. He was bright, colorful, friendly, and incredibly talented at doing what he loved.

His influence on the world of curly hair is undeniable. He shared his knowledge freely, inspired generations of stylists, and helped so many of us see the artistry and possibility in hair with new eyes. But beyond the work, we will remember the man: his laughter, his warmth, his spirit, and the joy he brought into our community.

We are heartbroken but we know that this is not goodbye, this is until we meet again to someone we were so fortunate to know and love.

Rest In Power, Dominique. You will be deeply missed, and you will never be forgotten.

This is definitely not a repost. We’re simply… giving this curly cleanup a second moment. 👀✨

After a trip to Maui, he came home realizing those shoulder-length curls had gotten a little too comfortable. Sasha gave him the reset he was looking for—shorter, sharper, and with that effortlessly classic, slightly wild shape. ✂️🌀

Sometimes the curls just need a little editing. Sasha knew exactly how much to take off. 😌

Some curls are just getting started—and what a beautiful place to begin. 🥹✨

Arlevia welcomed this birthday girl for her first curly cut just before she turns 7 and heads into a new school year. Her mom was soaking up every bit of curly-hair knowledge, determined to give her daughter the kind of relationship with her natural hair that she didn’t discover until her own 20s. 💕🌀

And this is exactly why so many of our youngest guests love Arlevia. She has a way of making kids feel comfortable, cared for, and seen while teaching the grown-ups how to care for those beautiful crowns at home. 👑

Happy 7th birthday, beautiful! May this be the beginning of a very long love affair with your curls. 🎂🎉

Testimonial Tuesday 💬✨

“It’s the only curly hair salon I can find in the city.” 🌀

We’ll take that as a compliment—and a reminder of why having people who understand your curls matters. Marie knows there’s no such thing as “just curly hair.” Every texture has its own needs, personality, and possibilities. 💙

If you’ve been searching for your curly hair people, you found us. Come see us at 2250 Union St. or book your appointment online. ✨

Krylon is off the clock, and the phone is officially doing the heavy lifting. 😌📱

Some days, self-care looks like a treatment. Other days, it looks like sitting somewhere peaceful and scrolling with absolutely no agenda. 🌿✨

Even stylists need a little time to just… be. 💆🏽‍♀️

A curly black mullet, just in time for the desert. 🏜️✨

Karen’s guest came in with the kind of hair that was clearly asking for something a little more interesting—and left festival-ready, curls and all. 🎧🌀

We’ve been seeing quite a few musicians and festival-goers in the salon lately. Maybe the desert is calling… or maybe it’s just good hair. 🔥

This week’s Curl Crush 🌀🖤
Shoulder-length curls, impeccable texture, and a whole lot of personality. shayyan300, thank you for stopping by and letting us spend a little time with that beautiful crown. ✨👑

We love the people who come through our doors—and the many ways they express themselves through their hair. Until next time! 🖤

Last-minute Burning Man prep? Babe… it’s too late for this year. 😏🔥 Krylon spent her final day before the playa refreshing these twists, because the desert waits for no one. ✨

Consider this your reminder to book before the next big thing sneaks up on you. Your future festival self will thank you. 🌀🏜️
