Your calves are working almost every time you’re on your feet - walking, hiking, running, climbing stairs, or simply standing.
When they become tight, you may notice:
calf soreness
ankle stiffness
reduced mobility
or even tension that travels into the feet
This simple tennis ball technique can help ease tightness and improve mobility.
🎾 Place the tennis balls beneath your calf and allow the muscle to sink into the pressure gently. Then slowly flex and point your foot to create an active release. Pause on any tender spots, then reposition the tennis balls to another area of the calf until you’ve worked through the entire muscle. Let your body guide the amount of pressure.
Sometimes, just a minute or two can make a noticeable difference.

The tennis balls matter.
They can help a tight muscle soften, improve mobility, and bring relief. That’s why I share these simple techniques.
But over the years, I’ve found myself becoming just as curious about something else…
What changed in your life?
What has your body been adapting to?
Sometimes the answer is obvious - an injury, a new workout, long hours at a desk, or repetitive movement.
And sometimes... there’s another layer worth exploring.
I don’t believe we have to choose between the physical and the emotional. I think they often work together, each influencing the other.
The muscle deserves attention.
So does the story behind it.
That’s the work I love doing.
💙 Has your body ever gotten your attention in a way that made you stop and wonder what else might be going on?
This is just one piece of the puzzle. Inside the Bodymind Align App, you’ll find guided practices, self-massage techniques, EFT tapping, and bodymind insights to help you better understand what your body may be trying to tell you. Explore it through the link in my bio.

You know what started the tightness.
Maybe it’s exercise.
Maybe it’s gardening.
Maybe it’s hours at a desk.
Those are all real reasons muscles become tight.
But after working with bodies for over 24 years, I’ve learned to ask a different question:
What’s keeping it there?
Sometimes the answer is physical.
Sometimes there’s another piece of the puzzle.
Curiosity doesn’t replace good bodywork - it expands it.
💙 What area of your body seems to ask for your attention over and over again?
Tight hamstrings don’t always need more stretching. Sometimes they need a chance to let go.
This simple tennis ball technique can help release tension along the back of the thigh.
A few tips:
Sit on a slightly taller stool or chair so your leg has room to move freely back and forth.
Place the tennis balls under different spots along your hamstring rather than staying in one place.
Explore from just below the sit bone all the way toward the back of the knee, but stopping just above it.
Move slowly and let your body guide you. Tender is okay. Sharp pain is not.
Remember, tight hamstrings can also be a response to how you’re moving, sitting, exercising, or even what your body has been adapting to over time. This is simply one tool to help them soften.
💙 Save this for the next time your hamstrings feel tight, and let me know if you notice a difference.

Outer hip feeling tight?
Sometimes that nagging tension on the outside of your hip comes from a small muscle with a very big name...
The ‘Tensor Fasciae Latae.’
In massage school, we affectionately called it the “Latte” muscle. ☕😉
Place the tennis ball just below the bony part of your outer hip and lean gently into the wall.
With your knee bent, slowly rotate your leg inward... then outward.
Instead of simply pressing on the muscle, that gentle rotation allows the muscle fibers to glide over the tennis ball, encouraging them to lengthen and release.
Move slowly.
Breathe.
Let your body guide the pressure.
🔅 Save this tip for the next time your outer hip needs a little attention.

When someone comes to see me, I don’t start by trying to find the answer.
I start by getting curious.
Where does it hurt?
When did it begin?
Is it constant, or does it come and go?
What makes it worse?
What makes it feel better?
What changed in your life right before it began?
Each answer is another clue.
Another dot to connect.
Sometimes those dots point to an injury, posture, or movement pattern.
Sometimes they point to a season of life, a major transition, or a source of ongoing stress.
Often... they’re connected.
I’m not looking for one explanation.
I’m looking for patterns.
Because our bodies have a remarkable way of leaving clues.
Curiosity is what helps us connect them.
🧩 Now it’s your turn.
Try it.
Pick one symptom you’ve been dealing with and walk yourself through these questions.
What picture starts to emerge?
I’d genuinely love to hear what you discovered
Hip feeling tight? Low back talking to you?
This simple technique targets the piriformis muscle, deep in the center of your glutes.
Place the tennis balls in the center of the glute on the side you want to work.
You can do this on the floor or on your bed.
Bend that knee and place your foot on the surface.
Now gently sway your knee from side to side.
The pressure helps, but it’s really the movement that makes the difference.
As your leg moves, it helps lengthen the muscle fibers and can ease tension that contributes to tight hips and an achy low back.
Move slowly, breathe, and let your body guide you.

Sometimes the symptoms we experience become invitations to look a little deeper.
This isn’t a story about Bell’s Palsy.
It’s a story about what I discovered after experiencing it four different times.
Looking back, I began to notice a pattern that I couldn’t see while I was living it.
That experience didn’t give me all the answers...
But it taught me to become more curious about the connections between what I was experiencing physically and what was happening in my life.
Have you ever looked back and realized there was a pattern you couldn’t see at the time?
I’d love to hear about it.
And if you’re curious about beginning that same journey of listening more deeply to your own body, I invite you to explore the free 3-Day Bodymind Reset inside the Bodymind Align App.

Lifted something heavy? Carried groceries? Slept in an awkward position?
That pinchy feeling on the outside of your shoulder may be coming from your deltoid muscle.
Here’s a simple technique you can try at home.
Place a tennis ball against the meaty part of your upper arm and lean gently into a wall. Then, instead of only holding pressure, slowly rotate your arm while keeping gentle compression on the ball.
That movement allows the tennis ball to glide across the muscle fibers, similar to a cross-fiber technique I often use in my office.
Sometimes it’s not just the pressure that helps...
Sometimes it’s the movement.
🔅Save this one for the next shoulder “pinch.”
🌻Share it with someone who’s always carrying everyone else’s groceries. 😉

I almost ignored this.
This started with a broken crown... but it ended with an unexpected insight over breakfast.
When my dentist asked if I’d been clenching or grinding my teeth, my first thought was, “Maybe.” The past two years have held more loss and stress than I sometimes realize.
I don’t always find the most meaningful insights on a massage table. Sometimes they show up over breakfast when I finally slow down enough to notice something.
As I paid attention, I realized I was already reaching for the next bite before I had completely finished the first. It made me smile... because it felt strangely familiar.
That’s when I recognized the pattern. I don’t just consume food that way. I consume ideas, projects, books, conversations, possibilities... almost everything that excites me.
I also realized I’m a “chewer.” I love chewing on the good things in life. But if I’m honest, I can also chew on stress, loss, insecurity, loneliness, and unanswered questions long after they’re worth chewing on.
Building Bodymind Align has been teaching me something. Every time I start reaching for the next project, I gently ask myself, “Have you fully experienced this one yet?”
Maybe that’s what healing sometimes looks like - not rushing toward what’s next, but allowing ourselves to fully digest where we are right now.
The first bite deserves our full attention. So does the conversation. The season we’re in. The grief. The joy. The lesson. They all deserve time to become part of us.
So where in your life are you reaching for the next bite before you’ve fully experienced the first?
