✨ A LITTLE REINTRODUCTION ✨

Hi friends! 🤍 It’s been a little while, so I thought it was time to reintroduce myself especially for all of the new faces around here!

I’m Emily Cruz, the heart behind Yourshearjoy. 🤍🐻 I’m originally from Moreno Valley, California, and now I’m blessed to call San Marcos, Texas home.

And if you’re new here, I’d love to share a little bit about the girl behind the chair and the story behind this little dream of mine. ✨

For starters, I never thought owning my own business was something that was actually possible for me. I always dreamed about it, but I never really allowed myself to believe I could do it.

Growing up, I struggled with dyslexia and was often told in school that I had a “learning disability.” For a long time, those words made me feel like there were things I simply couldn’t do.

But one day, someone changed the way I looked at it. Her name was Laura Younts, and she once told me that dyslexia isn’t a disability it’s an ability. I will never forget those words or the kindness she showed me by saying them. 🤍

That stayed with me. and I began to realize that what I had always seen as a limitation was actually part of my ability and that ability was art. 🎨

I’ve always had a passion for art and creating, and I found another outlet for that creativity through the beauty industry. Hair became a way for me to express myself, create something beautiful, and eventually connect with and serve other people.

Now, 13 years later, I can look around at Yourshearjoy and see something I once thought was impossible.

And I know it wasn’t just me.

I love Jesus. He is my Lord and Savior, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything He has done in my life. This shop is one of the biggest reminders of His faithfulness to me. What I once thought was impossible, He made possible. 🤍

Over the years, the Lord has taught me that doing hair is about so much more than hair. It has taught me what it means to love, listen, serve, encourage, and truly care for people.

That is what I hope you feel when you sit in my chair.

Haircutting is truly where my heart is, and I especially love working with curls and helping people feel confident in their natural hair. But more than anything, I want Yourshearjoy to be a place where you feel welcomed, comfortable, heard, and cared for.

Because to me, it has never just been about the finished look. It’s about the relationships, the conversations, the laughs, the trust, and the people I get the privilege of meeting along the way. 🤍

A few fun things about me outside of the salon:

☕️ My go-to coffee order is a Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino.

🤍 One of my favorite things to do is go on walks with my husband.

🌊 And, of course, my favorite part of San Marcos has to be the river!

I’m married, and while we don’t have children just yet, I’m a proud fur mama to my 8-year-old Shih Tzu, Amber. 🐾💕 I’ve had her since she was just 6 weeks old, so she has been my baby for quite a while!

I’m so incredibly thankful for every person who has supported me, trusted me with their hair, encouraged me, shared my business, left a review, referred a friend, or simply followed along. You are a part of this journey, and I truly don’t take that for granted. 🥹🤍

So whether you’ve been here for years or you’re brand new welcome to Yourshearjoy! I’m so happy you’re here. ✨

✨ Let’s talk about breaking the curl cast! ✨

That soft, fluffy, bouncy finish doesn’t happen by accident it all comes down to how you finish your curls. 💚

The key? Don’t touch them until they’re completely dry! Once your curls are 100% dry:

💚 Warm a small amount of cream between your hands
💚 Gently rope each curl to soften the cast
💚 Scrunch with a light, pulsing motion
💚 Finish by gently shaking out your roots for that effortless volume ✨

You can keep all the definition while still getting those soft, touchable curls you love!

Sometimes it’s just a few small technique changes that make the BIGGEST difference. 🫶🏼

✨ BOOKING UPDATE ✨

After giving this much thought, I’ve decided to make a small change to my color services for the time being.

As my schedule continues to grow, I want to create more space in my books so I can accommodate more of you while still giving each appointment the time, attention, and quality it deserves. ✨

Moving forward, I will no longer be accepting new color clients for the time being. Color appointments will be reserved for my existing color guests clients I’ve previously colored for and have an established color history with me, as well as clients I’ve recently worked on.

I’ve also removed highlights from my service menu for the time being. However, if I’ve previously done your highlights, you are absolutely still welcome to reach out to me directly so we can get you scheduled!

This is only a temporary change while I work on creating more availability in my schedule. I’ll be sure to announce when I’m ready to welcome new color clients again! 🫶🏼

I’m officially back from my short vacation and excited to be back behind the chair! I wanted to give everyone a quick heads-up that we are currently in the back-to-school rush, which means my schedule is extremely limited and I am nearly fully booked.

I also want to apologize in advance for any slower response times. I’ll do my very best to get back to everyone as soon as I can, but replies may take a little longer than usual during this busy season.
