Sandpoint Medical Massage & Bodyworks, LLC
A holistic and effective approach to health care We want to help you get to the bottom of your aches and pains.
We opened in March 2017 in hopes to offer the kind of massage that many folks want but don't know how to find...This isn't a spa and unless explicitly asked for, you won't be getting a "light and airy" massage. We'll use a variety of therapeutic modalities such as: myofascial release, neuromuscular techniques, trigger point therapy, deep stretching, and structural integration. We work with everyone: carpenters, pregnant ladies, baristas, lumberjacks, the elderly, high school football players, dancers, teachers, you name it. We'll work with you and whatever kind of issues you may have.

:: The Quiet Strength Beneath It All ::
Bones do a remarkable amount of work without asking for much attention.
They support us, protect vital organs, provide the framework for movement, store minerals, and house the marrow where blood cells are produced. Much of that work happens quietly, every day, beneath everything else we do.
At Sandpoint Medical Massage & Bodyworks, we spend a lot of time working with the muscles, fascia, joints, and nervous system surrounding that structure. This skeletal-system series has been a good reminder that what happens beneath the soft tissue matters, too.
There is strength in the parts of the body we rarely think about.
And sometimes simply paying attention to how the whole body is working together can change the way we understand what we’re feeling.
If your body has been asking for a little more attention lately, our Sandpoint massage therapists are here when you’re ready.

:: The Body Is Always Adapting ::
Your body does not move exactly the same way every day.
Sleep, stress, workload, activity, recovery, and even how much time you have spent sitting or standing can change the way movement feels from one day to the next.
That adaptability is part of what allows us to keep functioning through changing demands.
At Sandpoint Medical Massage & Bodyworks, therapeutic bodywork gives us a chance to work with the body as it is today—not based on an assumption that it should feel or move exactly as it did last week, last year, or before an injury.
Sometimes a session is less about “fixing” something and more about paying attention to what the body is asking for now.
If your body has been feeling different lately, you’re welcome to schedule a session with one of our Sandpoint massage therapists.

:: More Familiar Faces at SMMB ::
There are a few more people we want to properly introduce — or reintroduce — at Sandpoint Medical Massage & Bodyworks.
Tara Heisey is one of the newest massage therapists to join our Sandpoint team. Her background includes geriatric massage, neuromuscular therapy, connective tissue work, and pre- and postnatal massage. After stepping away from therapeutic massage for a few years to work as a chiropractic assistant and radiographer, she has returned to massage therapy part-time.
Tara also works in the Lake Pend Oreille School District, which means she offers some especially useful after-school and late-afternoon appointment times.
And if you’ve called our office recently, you may have heard a familiar voice.
Jade Stevens, who worked as a massage therapist at SMMB for more than five years, is now helping Brook with phone and front-desk support. She already knows the office inside and out, and we’re grateful to have her back as part of the team in a new way.
We’re thankful for the mix of new faces, familiar ones, and the different skills and experiences each person brings to our Sandpoint massage practice.

:: Meet Alicia & Erin ::
Two therapists, two very different backgrounds, and two more reasons to get to know the team at Sandpoint Medical Massage & Bodyworks.
Alicia Reed is a lifelong Sandpoint local with a strong deep-tissue practice, along with hot stone therapy and a growing Ashiatsu practice. Clients have been giving especially good feedback on her barefoot massage work, and fall is a pretty good time to remember that hot stones exist.
Erin Phillips is back at SMMB after time on the East Coast. Her work is moving more deeply into oncology massage and Nervous System-Informed bodywork, with an emphasis on gentle touch, body awareness, and the ways tension, breath, and the nervous system interact. Erin is also a certified 200-hour yoga teacher and holds a B.S. in Biology.
One of the things we value most about our team is that no two therapists work exactly the same way. Different training, different life experience, different strengths — all under one roof here in Sandpoint.
If you’ve been thinking about trying someone new, Alicia and Erin are both available for appointments.

:: A Familiar Face or Two ::
A few members of our team will be away in early October for Visceral Manipulation training and travel, so we reached out to some former SMMB therapists for a little extra support.
Rob and Gabrielle Díona answered the call.
From October 5–12, both will be back at the office and available for appointments. If you worked with Rob or Gabrielle before they moved to Missoula—or have simply heard their names around here—this is a chance to see them while they’re back in Sandpoint for the week.
Appointments can be booked online or by calling the office.

:: Change Happens Gradually ::
Most changes in the body are not dramatic enough to notice from one day to the next.
A little less range of motion. A slightly different way of standing. One side doing a bit more work than the other.
Because those shifts can happen slowly, they often become familiar before we realize anything has changed.
That is one reason bodywork can be useful: it creates an opportunity to notice how the body is moving now, not just where something hurts.
Sometimes the most useful information is found in the small differences that have quietly become normal.

:: Come Warm Up in the Sauna ::
Some of you may not know that we have a full-spectrum infrared sauna right here at Sandpoint Medical Massage & Bodyworks.
It’s a Clearlight sauna with near-, mid-, and far-infrared heat, low-EMF/low-ELF technology, western red cedar, and chromotherapy. In simpler terms: it is a very comfortable place to get deeply warm, sweat, be still, and settle in for a while.
For fall and winter, we’re offering a few new ways to use it:
4 sauna sessions — $99
8 sauna sessions — $149
Monthly membership — $99
Up to 6 sauna sessions per month
Automatic monthly billing with a 3-month minimum
Single session — $35
Add towels or an additional person for $5
And if you’re curious but not ready to commit, you can add a sauna session to your bodywork appointment for $25.
North Idaho winters are long. We wanted to make it easier to come in, get warm, and make a little room for rest.
Questions are always welcome.

:: A Little Something for Fall ::
As summer gives way to fall, we’re making a few temporary changes to our bodywork packages.
From September 22 through October 10, we’re offering an additional $15 off our 3- and 5-session packages:
Three 60-minute massages — $260
Savings of $40
Five 60-minute massages — $440
Savings of $60
We’re also trying something new:
Purchase four 60-minute sessions and receive a 30-minute session to gift to someone else.
Or purchase four 90-minute sessions and receive a 60-minute session to gift to someone else.
We like the idea of extending bodywork beyond ourselves, and we’re curious to see how this offering works for our community.
Questions are always welcome.

:: A Season of Change at SMMB ::
This summer has brought some changes to our team.
We said goodbye to Rob and Gabrielle Díonas as they began a new chapter in Missoula, and more recently to Shawwn Carlson, who has been part of SMMB for almost five years and is moving into a new career in finance.
We are grateful for the time, skill, and presence each of them brought to this practice.
At the same time, we are feeling especially grateful for the group of therapists here now — for the range of experience, personalities, and approaches that make up this team.
There is a lot of depth in our team, and we are glad to be doing this work together.

:: Support, Protection, and Movement ::
The skeletal system does far more than give the body its shape.
Bones provide support, protect organs like the brain, heart, and lungs, and create the framework that allows movement to happen.
But movement is never the work of the bones alone. Muscles, fascia, joints, ligaments, and the nervous system all work together around that structure.
At Sandpoint Medical Massage & Bodyworks, we pay attention to those relationships because discomfort in one area can be influenced by how the rest of the body is moving and supporting it.
If movement has started to feel less comfortable or more limited, bodywork can be one way to look at the larger pattern.
