Tips for caring for your sun kissed skin ☀️

It’s summer and that means you’re likely spending time in the sun. It’s so important to take care of your skin afterwards with the right products and care.

Salicylic Acid—friend or foe? Well, it all depends on your skin type. If you’re more oily and prone to breakouts, blackheads, and whiteheads, adding salicylic acid could be what you’re missing. When finding a salicylic product, you’ll typically see that it comes in a percentage.

Starting out low and slow is key. 🔑
Give your skin a chance to acclimate to products before rejecting them; often, the product’s job is to encourage “cell turnover,” this is how things heal. But it also can mean a breakout. But that doesn’t mean the product was wrong. It means it brought it to the surface and allowed it to be treated and extinguished sooner. 🫶
⚠️ However, if you experience burning, swelling, and redness, it may mean that your skin is not properly prepped for a stronger acid or that you’re allergic.
Testing in a small area is always a good idea when trying something new.

Why is knowing your skin type important?
It helps us to choose the right products and treatments to give you the healthiest skin possible.

1. Normal Skin: Individuals with normal skin may experience slight oiliness in the T-zone, but their overall skin maintains a balanced complexion.

2. Oily Skin: Excess oil can trap dirt and dead skin cells, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Many people with oily skin also find that makeup doesn’t last throughout the day.

3. Dry Skin: Environmental factors such as cold weather, hot showers, or harsh cleansers can exacerbate dryness. Additionally, aging naturally reduces oil production, making dryness more prevalent over time.

4. Combination Skin: Treating combination skin can be challenging because different areas of the face require distinct care. Using only oil-control products can worsen dryness in dry areas, while heavy creams can make the T-zone oilier.

So when discussing your skin in your consultation, noting how your skin is on a daily basis is crucial to making the right choices from the beginning.
