I am living proof of why I would ban chemical sunscreens!!
The common chemical sunscreens are Avobenzone, Octocrylene, Homosalate, Octinoxate, and even Parasol Shield (in europe only) There are more than these!
The FDA considers the chemical sunscreens to be safe and effective in smaller percentages. But they also allow 4 or 5 of them in one sunscreen. Chemical SPFs work by absorbing the sun rays whereas titanium dioxide and zinc reflect the Sun’s Rays. So the mineral sunscreens do not get absorbed into the skin. Chemical sunscreens do get absorbed and even into the bloodstream in small amounts. chemical sunscreens carry higher risk of causing allergic reactions!

So I actually still get a sunburn if I use a chemical sunscreen. Over the years, I have tried different chemical sunscreens. and couldn’t understand why I would still get burned and then I became an aesthetician and I learned why. I hear people complain that sunscreen’s with zinc show the white residue. For those folks, I always recommend a tinted mineral sunscreens.
