Is it acne...or rosacea?

Rosacea can resemble acne but a professional can help you spot the difference. Here are the 4 subtypes of rosacea and how they present.

1️⃣ Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea (ETR)
“Redness & Flushing Rosacea”
Common Symptoms:
Persistent facial redness
Frequent flushing
Visible broken capillaries (telangiectasia)
Burning or stinging sensation
Sensitive skin

2️⃣ Papulopustular Rosacea
“Acne Rosacea”
Often confused with acne.
Common Symptoms:
Red bumps
Pustules (“whitehead” lesions)
Inflamed breakouts
Persistent redness
Sensitive skin
Key Difference From Acne:
Usually lacks blackheads and comedones

3️⃣ Phymatous Rosacea
“Thickened Skin Rosacea”
A rarer subtype involving skin thickening.
Common Symptoms:
Thickened or bumpy skin texture
Enlarged pores
Swollen skin
Most commonly affects the nose (rhinophyma)

4️⃣ Ocular Rosacea
“Eye Rosacea”
Affects the eyes and eyelids.
Common Symptoms:
Dry or irritated eyes
Burning or gritty sensation
Red or watery eyes
Swollen eyelids
Light sensitivity
💡 Often overlooked because people don’t associate eye symptoms with rosacea.

A barrier repairing skincare routine along with avoid rosacea triggers helps to reduce redness and flares.

How to choose Retinol vs Acids 🤨

As a general rule I usually use Retinol for inflamed acne, blackheads and age management. I like Mandelic Acid for inflamed acne, hyperpigmentation and rosacea.

Having an expert design a plan for you is always the best way to ⬆️ increase success and ⬇️ decrease frustration with your skincare routine.
